HOW to stop Reflux with lemon/lime water? Help?

gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo (with rice)... I figured I'd finally be able to go off Nexium for reflux so I weaned off Nov. 1. Reflux returned. First heartburn, then the stomach aches returned. Antacids didn't help much. Read on Paleohacks about using lemon/lime/ACV in water. ACV didn't work but limes (it's what I had) seem to work pretty good at times, but not fully. About a week of lime water and just when I think it's going well I'm still getting full on stomach aches with no relief from the lime, just time and digestion. I'm on the verge of going back to Nexium but I don't want to and keep delaying and trying more lime. Any suggestions? Perhaps lemons are stronger/better than limes? I googled but found no real instructions on how to properly do this, so I just keep downing limes squeezed into water several times a day, with meals, and when I'm feeling something starting. Seems people said it worked for them right away, is this right? So, perhaps is it just not working for me or does it just take a while to heal and start working? Is there anywhere with real instructions? Any advice? Help? THANKS!

UPDATE: grain-free, cut the rice out, symptoms subsided! (and down a pound to boot, lol). You guys are awesome, thank you! Hope this doesn't sound dumb now, but curious about potatoes... are you ok with potato or have to avoid them too? (way too soon for me to experiment :p)

Totally agree. PPIs messed up my system really bad. I was diagnosed with gastric erosion, but both doctors missed my SIBO. PPIs on SIBO is a big no-no. Try anything to ditch Nexium.

ooh, I was wondering about that, that's why I included it in my question. Good to know, thanks so much! I'll try that for sure.

I was grain free except for rice for 3 months prior to Paleo and I still had acid reflux. After going full Paleo, reflux went away. I had a cup of rice last night (first time since Aug) because I made some for my son and it looked too good to resist and now I have acid reflux again. Avoiding ALL grains is best way to eliminate acid reflux, unfortunately.

Just to make sure, are you adequately chewing your food? Reprogramming the right way of eating instead of swallowing my food after a few bites solved my reflux and digestion problems. Just another result of having a stressful live...

And isn't that Nexium exactly the other way around of what you're trying to do with lemons/limes?

Ditch that crap + chew well (drink you food, chew your water) + avoid stress + breathe correctly + movement. These are very important factors as well.

lemon, lime and ACV cause GERD for me.

The only way I've ever gotten complete symptom relief is no grains, no starches, no sugars. And although I do dairy, I cannot have any dairy in the evening, because that's a guarantee that I'll have reflux.

Missi - I stopped Nexium cold turkey about 4-5 years ago when I was 20-21 because of the extreme symptoms I was experiencing. Nexium was causing more harm than good. Magically, when I stopped the meds my symptoms subsided. Before that I was on Celexa and something else that I can't remember.

I am happy to say I only have an attack every once in while. Maybe a few times a year. The same time I was diagnosed with reflux I was also diagnosed with IBS and ulcers (about 15-16 years old). I am happy to say that I hardly, if ever, have IBS symptoms as well.

I have never used lime before, but for relief back when I stopped cold turkey I took organic apple cider vinegar. Maybe about a teaspoon or so.

I am 25 years old, and have only be strict Paleo for about a month. Thanksfully a family friend introduced me to it. Now, if I do have an attack I drink a lot of water, sometimes with lemon... and maybe pop a tums.

I can usually pin point what I ate to cause the irritation.. which thinking back to my history of attacks, it usually ends of being the non-paleo foods that caused the irritation. I would highly recommend avoiding all grains, refined sugars, and processed foods. I hardly ever have a problem while eating healthy foods.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.
