Hack my stomach/throat problems!

Hi!

Recently i've been having some of stomach cramps and in the last 2 weeks i've been feeling a lump in my throat. It's almost gone in the mornings but gets worse throughout the day. I can swallow food normally, i think, but it feels kinda weird when i swallow. I've also felt a slight pain between my shoulderblades after i eat.

A year ago i tried taking Now Super Enzymes(HCI+Pepsin, etc) just to see if it would decrease bloating. I took one capsule and right away i felt the warm feeling in the stomach, so i figured i didn't need those. With my recent problems i decided to try them again. I'm now up to 6 capsules and i don't feel any difference when i take them. No warm feeling in the gut or anything. Should i try taking even more than 6 capsules of digestive enzymes?

I do not feel any heartburn. Could it still be some kind of heartburn? Could that be connected to my "lump in throat"?

I've been to a doctor a few times. They have done some bloodwork and stool tests and all they can say is that it is probably stress related. But i feel like it has been going on for too long and with too many growing symptoms for it to only be caused by stress.

Any ideas is appreciated!

After reading http://chriskresser.com/get-rid-of-heartburn-and-gerd-forever-in-three-simple-steps i have ordered Betain and HCL and will try that for a while. I had Now Foods Super Enzymes but i think they might have gone bad or something(by me not storing them correctly).

Another differential diagnosis is eosinophil esophagitis, which is caused by an unknown food allergy. To diagnose your doctor would need to do an esophageal biopsy.

seems to me, Rob thinks his gastritis was caused by taking papaya enzyme supplements (not a paleo diet?)

Why does everyone on the paleo diet have this I sure don't. Maybe some people are coming into the Paleo diet because they already have this and are feeling bad enough to try something new to cure it.

"I do not feel any heartburn. Could it still be some kind of reflux?" Yes, there are other types of reflux. ie. laryngopharyngeal reflux (lpr, silent reflux).

also have read up on bile reflux

the ENT can also stick a camera up your nose & down your throat (nasal endoscopy) & take a good look for any signs of damage & hypothesise on potential causes.

make sure the ENT is set up for this & will do on 1st visit, to save time & money.

the nasal endoscopy will see down as far as the adam's apple/voicebox/larynx area. to see further down a 'full' endoscopy would be required (usually done in a hospital).

I actually mistook them for for what I thought was HCL. I may or may not have low stomach acid, but I guess I won't be able to experiment with anytime soon. I had rosacea in the past, which cleared up, but I've heard some people taking HCL for it.

I took papaya enzymes for months. They eventually started to inflame my stomach lining.

Not really. I take more of a "perfect health diet" approach with moderate starch. I've been doing that for about a year. Before that i was low-carb for about 1.5 years.

Like i said, it's more of a slight discomfort. Not a sharp unbearable pain. It just worries me since i don't know where it is coming from. About the HCL, i take it because i think i might have low stomach acid and that can cause acid reflux, GERD, whatever.

Hmm.. switches place? Pain in the rib cage? Get to a doctor man! I don't think the ox bile is doing you any favors.

The digestive enzymes is for the stomach acid. It contains HCL, pepsin, ox bile, etc. Should i just take HCL and pepsin instead of all those other stuff?

The "lump" feels like it is in the back of my throat. But it kinda switches place, or at least feels like that. Nothing feels swollen.

I also have slight pain/discomfort under my rib cage.

Silent acid reflux is a real possibility. Lump in throat is very common symptom. See here for some details on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laryngopharyngeal_reflux Follow usual stuff for fixing GERD to get relief - e.g. fixing the gut, reducing bloating, etc.

And yet another thread where someone probably has Gastritis.... Why does everyone on the paleo diet have this. Mine was caused my papaya enzymes. Honestly, I don't' know if Paleo is the best diet for "Healing" gastritis. All the fat and protein is making is a slowww process, but I'm almost back to normal.

If I'm reading this right, you're eating Ox Bile, and you would like to eat more of it?

What kind of doctor did you go to? Like a quick care guy, or your primary, or a specialist?

An ENT should be able to put an ultrasound on your throat and get a good look at it. Is it more toward the thyroid area, or esophagus, or by the lymph nodes, or another section? I had a blocked salivary gland once, that was unpleasant. Gerd / pancreatitis can radiate to the shoulder, did you run this by a gastroenterologist?
