I enjoyed Dr Shanahan's perspective. She seems to be very open-minded and flexible.
I guess I'm now called a "Swiss paleo" although I just say I'm following modern, cutting-edge, nutrition.
I was intrigued that she is so anti-drugs and supplements; she wasn't subtle about that, was she? If I'd heard that supplemental calcium winds up in your arteries and tendons, I'd forgotten. Full disclosure requires that I admit I've disliked pills including supplements all along so of course I was rooting her on while she spoke.
When my dad was in his 20s he showed signs of arthritis. His employer at the time was a classic old country doctor. He told my dad to eat a leafy green salad every day and to make sure his greens had good rich color. My dad soon had no symptoms and never showed signs of arthritis again but he told me and my brother to make sure we ate lots of leafy greens because they're full of minerals. And, we both always have regardless of what else we did or didn't eat.
It seems the old country doctor knew his stuff!

Surprised there aren't more comments on this one! This was one of the highlights of the summit for me.
To hear an MD's perspective on drugs v diet was so interesting. I was fascinated by the Osteoporosis drugs she spoke about as I've known a few people who've been prescribed them.

I wish she was local... I liked her talk. And I liked her perspective on supliments. That D3 was ok as a supplements becuse we need it and because the body is use to getting it from sun instead of whole foods...

Cool story. Love it..."lets make the drugs the fringe".... ah, if only we could get there. So many side effects evaded and so many more people just being healthy. Alas, probably not in my life time, but sooner or later society will buckle under the weight of sickness our current model promotes.
Anyhow like her style.
