What are you doing to promote health?

Really, I just want to share that I requested that my library purchase Perfect Health Diet, and just received it this week...I'm excited to read it cover to cover, I already am a Jaminet fan via the web, and although I'm an avid collector of health related books, I have super limited funds for my obsession. I've requested a plethora of paleo health related books for my small~ish town local library to purchase, and that seems like something easy that we can all do to promote awareness of other avenues to health outside of the mainstream. So I want to encourage everyone here to request paleo books for their local bookstores and libraries to carry, and to turn my little blip into a question, I'm adding a query into your personal contribution in this arena...so what are YOU doing to promote health and spread the contagion of curiosity to think outside the box???

Yay! I do eat dairy. The maple syrup will go nicely and i'll add some pureed strawberries to make them pink. (The 5 year old says they must be pink.) Thanks Bree!!!

Do you do dairy? If so I made a creamcheese frosting sweetened with maple sugar for some carrot cupcakes and they were a total hit at a kids party (no one even knew there was no flour or sugar in them). If you don't do dairy I know that the food lovers have a recipe for frosting made of palm shortening I think - they have a couple of frosting recipes on their recipe index on their website

My username comes from a quote in Gladwell's The Tipping Point:

A Maven is someone who wants to solve other people???s problems, generally by solving his own.

So I experiment and I blog ;).

I signed up for a local Biggest Loser contest, and if I win I'll promote the hell out of paleo if I get any publicity, plus go home with the $1400 prize pot.

I'm bringing gluten-free, made with butter instead of vegetable oil, stevia instead of sugar cupcakes to my daughter's school party. I haven't quite figured out the frosting yet though.

Along with Dragonfly and Beth-WeightMaven, I gathered my courage and started a fledgling blog for older (in my mind, fully mature experienced) folks interested in health and/or ancestral eating.

I think I can consider it health-promoting because I am challenged to select and think about topics within the domain of health and ancestral eating. To the extent that other people may read it, I provide food for thought for them as well.

I do believe that having fun may be the most important way to promote health and I would list my family, my animal companions, my friends and the ancestral community as elements in my overall enjoyment of my life/health.

I put a George Forman grill and a little electric burner with a smokeless grill-top in the break room at work. Every day while my co-workers chomp down pizza or burgers or whatever - I cook up fresh meat and veggies. I get compliments every day on how good my food looks and smells. When someone gets curious enough to ask the right questions I explain it's part of my "diet" and then explain how that's not the right word but it's the word everyone understands so I have to start that way. If they continue asking questions I continue giving answers. I've converted a few.

I blog on Primal nutrition for my Pregnancy clients and post frequent Paleo/nutrition-related articles on FaceBook.
