Fastest way to health?

Answered on August 19, 2014
Created September 11, 2011 at 9:17 PM

I'm following Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint and Dr. Jack Kruse's Leptin reset protocol.

I supplement D, Magnesium, fish oil, krill oil, cod liver oil, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, zinc, Vitamin C, etc.

I meditate daily, and do some yoga. I am sleeping 7 to 8 hours a night.

What else can I do to shed the pounds and heal my metabolism faster?

Cody, BTW have you heard of Poliquin? I talk a lot about him b/c not only is he an integrative practitioner but he trains elite athletes and fixes there woes. Time = Opportunities = Money He also addresses adrenal/gut function from the get-go and also neolethal toxins like metals and the ever pervasive environmental estrogens which make men into MOOBIES/grrrrls...! http://www.charlespoliquin.com/Blog/tabid/130/EntryId/600/Poliquins-Top-10-Carb-Intake-Rules-for-Optimal-Body-Composition.aspx

I like broth/veggie fasts too! Have you every had your metals tested? Once one has been chelating with some of the recommendations in the paleosphere (like Robb wolf's alpha lipoic acid, more veggies/more juicing, NAC, etc) then the metals that were previously deeply harbored in soft tissues and causing organ/reproductive damage, start to eliminate (skin, urine, hair, nails, etc). If you were consuming boatloads of seafood or exposed to broken thermometers or dental amalgams, the chances of heavy metal toxicity are high in this modern age. Children are even born w/mercury symptoms now.

GOOD PUN!! *haa ha!* I like low doses of multiple herbs b/c single is less potent than the synergism of several (as long as you don't have reactions or intolerances). At our AHS11 talk, Tim and I discussed probiotics -- many are great brands but try one that has some soil organisms (Primal defense or a higher dose like MDA's primal one) because ancestrally we probably got daily doses of DIRT! If you feel worse on probiotics (like on starches or sugar or fiber/inulin), then you probably have SIBO overgrowth. Take it easy until it calms down.

I was thinking about adding some Milk Thistle for the liver support. Couldn't hurt! And that's the second vote for probiotics and fermented food. I need to find me some Kimchi and get some probiotics. I've read about bone marrow before. And bone broth was THE way to feed sick people back in the day and probably should be today as well. Good food for thought (pun intended). Thanks!

I am working out per the Primal blueprint. Move slowly 3 to 5 hours per week, lift heavy things 1 to 3 times per week (three times per week for me), and sprint every 7 to 10 days. It's almost time for my sprint. Obese people tend to have significantly nastier hormonal issues to deal with than just overweight or normal folks. IF has not worked for me in the past. I think it will when I lose more weight and am healthier. Total fasting (fasted 6 days last time) works great, but I have a job and kids to tend to.

I have about 100 more pounds to lose. I've lost about 120 so far. Breakfast is 7 extra large omega 3 eggs and either 8 ounces of sausage or bacon. Usually no lunch. And dinner is meat and non-nightshade veggies. Maybe some celery with almond/flaxseed butter.

Eat (non-pasteurized) fermented foods, like sauerkraut. You may want to look into making your own so you get all the good bacteria. Or take probiotics. Gut health is absolutely vital.

Cody,

HOW HAWWWTT!!! Losing 120 lbs is freaking awesome!!!! Big congrats :)

You are going pretty fast! If your hormones are optimal and stored industrial toxins (PCBs, heavy metals, pesticides, plastics, pthlates, etc) are minimal, I believe you will achieve all your health goals at the pace you desire.

In my 50 lb wt loss, I had a lot of plateaus which could have been alleviated 'faster' if I read more fitness/paleo/integrative medicine blogs and mags (not mainstream except T-nation or Men's Health which are more paleo-friendly) --Zen my fitness: PLATEAUS

For neolethal toxins, consider the high value of factors that speed the recover at the cellular level:

--liver support (I like many brands by NOW foods never fails). For health, the liver can never be underestimated. Eat some liver too.

--probiotics and fermented foods as mentioned earlier -- not only tasty they heal/seal the gut fast

--bone marrow broths (from healthy grassfed organic animals, preferably -- read GAPS diet by Dr.Natasha McBride-Campbell)

--Read Ori Hefmeklaer on the Anti-estrogenic diet -- we are all to estrogenically toxic from heavy metals, pesticides, seed oils and millions of other endocrine disruptors in our food, water, air, mouths (dental amalgams/implants) -- he rotates high carb with ketogenic days -- this is advised also by the TNT diet but if you are adrenally compromised (like most individuals are these days) then I would avoid ketosis/fasting -- consider carbs at 40-80 grams daily on the minimum end and have higher carb 'refeeds' to reset cortisol. Carbs lower cortisol.

--BCAA and full spectrum amino acids if your digestion is compromised. Again you can find these online like iherb.com.

--heavy metals -- I take for my multivit and chelation the am/pm product by extreme health (my kids too!)

Don't stress out about it. Wait for the signs of LS. You can move things faster if you also do the testing to see where you might be out of balance hormonally.

I find that my body does alright with the temporary absence of fats and protein. This has been a radical healing experience and I started with all sorts of metabolic chaos.
