Proper HCL dosage when comparing HCL brands.

After reading Robb Wolf Paleo Solution and Practical Paleo, I decided to get on some HCL for my wife and I to see how our digestion was going. I went to Whole Foods and got some HCL, they only had two kinds, either 600mg or 650. I went with the 650 because it was lactose free and we are doing the autoimmune protocol. The first couple of days, we took one, but didn't feel any burning, this morning we took 2 and I "think" I feel something. My wife says she doesn't.

Here's my question. When I looked up the information about Now Super Enzymes, the dosage was much lower per capsule--only 200. Whenever people talk about overdoing it, they refer to capsules, not mg. So, taking 2 of these "high dosage" pills would not be a good idea because it would be over the 5 capsule limit that Wolf refers to. Am I right? Or am I missing something.

Thank you!

Thank you! I hadn't read that part of Chris Kresser's website before and that puts my mind (and hopefully my stomach soon) at ease.

If you look on Chris Kresser's website I think he suggests HCL pills that are around 500-600mg. So your dosage might be right. If you're not feeling anything that is good.. That means that it is working! If it burns that means you already have enough stomach acid and HCL won't help you.

You're not overdoing it until you feel something.. once you do, back down a bit and maintain the dosage until you feel something again.. Make sense?
