Why Aren't You in the National Weight Control Registry?

Answered on September 12, 2014

Just became aware of the National Weight Control Registry (NWCR) after watching part 2 of HBO: The Weight of the Nation.

To qualify for the NWCR , you have to be > 18 years of age, have lost > 30 lbs, and have kept it off for over a year.

There certainly appear to be individuals interested in the national discussion, why not add to the data if you're a qualifier?

How about people who lost weight conventionally but are maintaining their losses ancestrally?

Why not register for both if you qualify?

That was the thought. The data has 78% eating breakfast, not too many IFers, I'd wager.

Nonsense, of course the internets are entirely populated by Americans. I think there's too much aluminium in your deodorant.

No need to get nasty. A cursory look at the site and the registration page makes it obvious they accept data from outside the US.

I kinda like being an untracked data point. Statistics are subjective.

The satisfaction of being a data point isn't enough?

I notice there's no way of specifying HOW you lost the weight. I fear they'd just use our success to continue pushing their bad advice.

Because there's a better option for us Paleo, Primal, Ancestral, Low-Carb (etc.) folks!

http://www.awlr.org/ "The Ancestral Weight Loss Registry is an international assembly of people who have tried a carbohydrate-restricted or paleo diet to lose weight or improve their health. Whether you lost 100 pounds or gained 20, we want to hear about it. "

Run by Paleo medical student Larry Istrail who also received his masters from Boston University in nutrition.

Hi All,

I am the founder of the Ancestral Weight Loss Registry. Thank you for spreading the word about the AWLR. We already have data from all 50 states and 32 countries worldwide. The more data we have, the more powerful the paleo message can become, as we present the acquired data to the medical community. If you take the time to register, it would be greatly appreciated!

Perhaps if enough of "us" registered, it would send a significant message.

Because I'm English. National means "American". You did realise that the internet wasn't entirely populated by Americans didn't you?
