I have been Paleo for 9 mos., went from 260-196 lbs., sugar from 271-80 average. Have been losing considerable hair and experiencing itchy skin, skin not dry.. Thyroid tests fine, have been on synthyroid for decades.

Count all your calories use counting app. What about fat?

Perhaps in your a zeal to lose body fat...you're starving yourself? and deficient in nutrients?

Details matter... gender, age, height, weight, waist. Exercise; type & frequency. Food; types & quantities

I suspect you hit the target with this response and I greatly appreciate it. I was under the assumption that the more protein the better, but obviously this is incorrect. Today I had 3 oz ground beef, I egg, 2 oz. tuna, 2 oz anchovies, 4 oz. whitefish, 3 glasses of almond milk. But today was low for my typical consumption.

Sorry I had never heard of macros, but did internet search and am learning.. I also did read the article you suggested and it made great sense.

Thank you so much

Today I tracked my carbs at 125 and protein at 88 grams. Is this considered low carb/ high protein? Does anyone know what the numbers should be ?

Paleo diet with low carb can lead to hair loss. Best recommendation would be include couple of potatoes in your diet or some white rice, sweet potatoes or bananas. This might help you a lot. Try introducing some iodine. Some minerals like silica; zinc etc can cause hair and skin issues.

What are your macros? High protein with severe carb or fat restriction can lead to hair loss.

Google high protein hair loss. Live Strong has a article... I cannot paste link.

Your mention of thyroid makes me wonder if you're taking selenium. Long term selenium supplementation can lead to hair loss. If you're taking iodine without selenium, start taking some, but if you're dosing high on selenium while getting some from your diet (eggs, fish, chicken, most meats...), cut back or stop taking it for a few months and see if it helps.

Shot in the dark:

Might want to check which nutrients you're getting, if you over-restrict calories or make poor food choices you could be coming up short. One that comes to mind is obviously Biotin, which can cause hair loss if deficient, it also plays some role in skin/nail health.
