So finally got insurance and want to do every possible test that will help me hack my body. I've been Paleo/primal for 6 months, have a LOT of inflammatory issues; crohn's, fibromyalgia and more. I know there are so many tests that will show what state my body is in, not looking for prescriptions(looking to get off some of the many I'm on) but more supplement and specific food/lifestyle recommendations. Don't know this doc so he may be conservative or test happy. But I figure with the accumulated knowledge on this board I can go in with a "dream" list of tests to get the info needed to hack my body systems. Common tests, obscure tests, weird tests, old tests, new tests, gimme all ya got!! i want the knowledge to hack hack hack and give my body's innate healing ability its best chance.

Thanks so much!! I have been exploring your website, the science fascinates me (I'd have re-majored in chem if I never got on as a police officer). Very intriguing stuff and after all the labs get done and come back, I'm coming to u & your site for some solutions!

Not sure if a full thyroid panel is included in that metabolic panel, but if not, you should have that as well.

In addition to this, that is already pretty comprehensive, I'd suggest that if you have so many inflammatory issues get your HS-CRP tested and sex hormones wouldn't hurt also, specially testosterone and free testosterone and DHEA.

Now I'm taking every supplement known to man (magn, D3, B12,krill oil, potassium & most of the stuff recommended by the Perfect Health Diet hoping for any kind of help, I'm on 6 prescription meds I would love to get off of. I'm desperate, seriously desperate. at 42 I shouldn't feel like I belong in a nursing home and be spending literally hundreds of dollars a month on supplements some of which I'm sure i don't need. I am the only person who can help myself but I need some kind of road map cuz Paleo has only done so much. It's been great but i need more pieces to my puzzle. Thanks 4 the reccs.

Not sure I completely understand your motive here. I can understand wanting to be tested so as to get a snapshot of your body's condition. But why are you going to an endocrinologist to have this done? Do you have symptoms that lead you to believe you have problems with your endocrine system? I'm not sure an endocrinologist has a better handle over inflammatory issues than a GP.

But back to tests, your endocrinologist would want you to have your TSH, free T3 and free T4 levels checked. You should also go for reverse T3 and thyroid antibodies tests as a follow-up if anything weird shows up or if you suspect you have thyroid/adrenal issues. If you complain about lethargy a check of your vitamin B12 level might be good.

Other tests worth having done that an endocrinologist probably doesn't deal with often are:

  • a full metabolic panel (blood counts, kidney and liver tests)
  • blood lipids (triglycerides, cholesterol)
  • H. pylori (especially if you are over 40)
  • vitamin D level

You can really go crazy with blood tests. If you got the $$$ there are always more tests for you.
