Im 19 years old 170cm tall for 50 kilos. Im so skinny and thin, i had ibs for 8 years but now on paleo it's much better. I'm paleo since 8 months but no gain in terms of fat! Why? Its a signsl that mu gut is damaged and cannot absorbe nutrients as it should? Should I follow SCD/GAP to make it heal?

Please help me... Im so sad about,,,

Maybe you're not eating enough. I can tell you from experience a typical paleo diet makes it hard to eat lots of calories. And as a 19 year old (male?), you likely need a lot of calories.

I wish I could give you more concrete advice, but since you've said you have IBS the best thing should be to find palatable/calorically dense food sources that don't upset your stomach and eat those often along with the rest of your diet. When I was in your shoes (IBS and underweight) this was rice with butter/spices and fruit juice. Yeah, neither is paleo, but neither is terrible in my opinion.

I'd suggest to have some labs checking for hormones, specially free-testosterone levels, cortisol and thyroid hormones.

Gaining or loosing weight is a thing that depends on lots of factors, the most directly hackable are diet and exercise, but hormonal status of the body is really important to balance things to the desired levels.

Some people with low levels of testosterone or hyperthyroidism have trouble putting on weight because their body won't simply allow for this to happen.

Also, we should make a difference between gaining lean muscle mass or body fat. Weight gain per-se doesn't make any sense. You could gain 20lbs of fat and you'd be in a worst situation than you are now. You are lean and that may actually mean that you have fast metabolism with lower total fat cell count. That's pretty good, you should improve by eating a lot of protein and fat a la Paleo Diet and focus on lots of good carbs that won't trigger your IBS symptoms. Tuber and fibrous ones should work pretty well, and if you can use the best starchy options like sweet potatoes, chestnuts, squash and the likes post-training, then the better for clean bulking.

Also high intensity strength training should be a must for you in order to try to gain pure muscle mass, try to train hard with heavy weights in a short repetition fashion, maybe you can rotate pure strength (3 to 5 reps) with hypertrophy style-training (in the 8 to 12 reps range).

Good luck!!

I have been wondering if a reverse Shangri-La Diet would help. Practioners of SLD generally tend to take in calories without flavor, which (if done correctly) lowers appetite. The body's set point seems to go down over time. Mine did- I'd like to gain some muscle now, but I can't get away from 170lbs. I was once 285.

In essence, for weight gain, the idea should be to create a strong signal- flavor- which gives the body a predictable payload- calories. We are all paleo for a reason, so obviously, going out and getting industrially processed food isn't going to work.

But we can mix up various amounts of fats, proteins, and carbs into hopefully tasty concoctions. If we can achieve the sort of taste dependability that Coca-Cola has, we might just gain weight.

Of course, I want to gain muscle, and not just a lot of fat. I suspect keeping away from SAD stuff will keep the fat levels down, but I don't know that for sure.

Same here, been Paleo for a very short time- just a few months, and I have cheated a bit, but have still lost too much weight. I've upped my fat intake, and it's made me gain a pound in the last month... hoping for more weight gain soon.

i'm having the same problem. beeing doing SCD/paleo since august and just can't gain a good amount of weight. i figured my gut would have at least healed a little so i could absorb nutrients, but not much.
