Apparently the carnitas aren't fried in soybean oil like the rest of the meats! http://www.chipotle.com/en-US/menu/special_diet_information/special_diet_information.aspx

I started getting indigestion eating at Chipotle, Soy is a likely culprit, as it affects me like that. Bummer, cause I really enjoyed their foodstuff.

It's possible they add MSG in some form too. It's really hard to find a restaurant that doesn't use MSG unless you're paying for food made from scratch(expensive) and no corner cutting whatsoever.

Good news and bad news with Chipotle. Good news is yes, they care about quality meats. From wikipedia:

All of Chipotle's pork is naturally raised ??? defined by the company as open-range, antibiotic free, and with a vegetarian diet ??? as well as 80% of its chicken and 85% of the beef (100% of the barbacoa served is from naturally-raised beef). The company formerly served 100% natural chicken, but demand exceeded supply.

Bad news: they add soy to all of their meats.

Take it as you will, but a little bit of soy is a pretty good trade-off in my opinion given the rest of the fast food options. Chipotle and In-N-Out Burger or my go-to fast food options when grabbing lunch with friends.

Want to avoid soybean oil at Chipotle? Order a burrito bowl with:

  • Carnitas
  • Guacamole
  • Lettuce
  • Salsa

(No rice or beans)

Even if they weren't, it still can be "paleo." I mean if we are going to be totally literal about paleo we'd have to use aurochs...

I usually get a salad + steak + more steak (sometimes they forget to charge me) + hot sauce +guac

I switched to the carnitas from the barbacoa since learning that the carnitas are the only meat they serve that isn't cooked in soybean oil. Yuck! But, the more down the paleo road I've gone, the more the food upsets my stomach, so I don't go much anymore.

It is mostly Paleo, but...I get bloaty after eating Chipotle...even after Paleoizing/Primalizing my bowl (steak, fajita veggies, guac, and greens, maybe red tomato salsa.)

Sodium bomb, or soybean oil fail?
