How do deal with grainovers....?

Answered on September 12, 2014
Created September 15, 2011 at 12:29 PM

I was at this potluck last night with other international students with food from all over the world.

The section for the North American local food had donuts. I ate one. Just to try and not offend the North American food. I regret it now. Massive grainover this morning. Never again.

Anybody got any tips how to ungrainover faster?

Exactly. Use it or loose it. Body wont make stuff it doesn't use. U need to eat everything, at least once a week.

I have the distinct impression that the longer I eat Paleo, the more extreme my grainovers become. Last Saturday I ate 2 apple beignets and a small brownie and I was brainfogged and tired all Sunday. Not fun at all.

I upvoted your question. This because you made a serious answer, however I don't feel like it is the end of the world just because I ate a donut. It was more that I had 4.5 hours of lectures straight, and I wanted to stay focused. I managed, thanks to a lot of coffee and water. Thank you for your reply :)

This answer received bunch of negative votes [it is still in plus because cool people won again] just because I told a person he shouldn't feel guilty cuz of occasional donut if he has no specific problems. To all those fanatics who clicked 'the down arrow', get a life, seriously or go hang out in scientology section.

Not a big deal. You have your whole life to eat a whole lot of things, this one donut isn't goin to do anything. Eat like normal and don't think about it.

Agreed. Nothing you can do now, except maybe keep the carbs down today to make your body use those in the donut as fuel rather than store them. Hydrate like crazy, to help flush toxins. Most of all...let go of the guilt. Cortisol never helps.

I wouldnt worry about it, dont let it spoil your mood. International gatherings makes you propably feel so good that any sugar or wheat evens out :)

Go back to eating paleo like nothing happened. Don't stress over it. IF if you're into that. Stay hydrated. Maybe take some extra vitamins or minerals.

You do nothing !

Don't be absurd. If you don't have any problems with grains, occasional donut will not kill you. Humans are not good with prolonged extremes.

Its about dominant food you eat.

Ability to eat as many foods as possible is evolutionary benefit. Use it or loose it.

There is related problem, however - when such food becomes dominant in short periods of time (like eating bread 3 days constantly because of any reason). U can use cynamon and ascorbate and more exercise to burn it down. You can also try to enjoy it instead of filling guilty.

If I feel awful after eating non-Paleo food, I'd rather IF until it's out of my system (or at least somewhere down in my colon). After that, I'll usually eat some protein like hard boiled eggs & fried bacon, and bring back carbs later on.

Whenever I have something that isn't good for me, I like to eat some fresh coconut or coconut flakes. I feel like it helps me heal the gut faster. But it could be all mental, who knows...

Eat as much scallops as you can. They'll give you a nice energy boost.

But yes, you will have to suffer through this.

Lower your self-expectations as far as willpower, energy, mood, social skills and work ethic, so you don't enter a negative psychological spiral. Take it easy.

Take a tablespoon or two of coconut oil or grassfed butter and have a fat fast until dinner.
