Omaha Steaks - worth it if at a good price?

I know Omaha steaks are grain fed, but I just got an ad in the mail for what seems to be a good deal.

  • 4x5oz filet
  • 4x5oz sirloin
  • 4x4oz pork chops
  • 2x4.5oz stuffed sole with scallops & crab
  • 10x4oz burgers
  • 4x3oz franks
  • 8 potatoes au gratin (which I'll pass on, they're breaded)

All of the above for $60. MSRP of $229, currently for sale online for $99. (So it looks like I'm saving $40 instead of saving the $160 the mailing claims).

Is it worth it, even though it's grain fed?

Agreed, they have an overly aggressive marketing program. Very annoying getting called at dinner time too.

I've had their steaks and for me it was a reminder that grain finished beef taste damn good lol, it was aged too so that's probably why it was good.

Found more ingredients: the franks have corn syrup and MSG. The sole stuffing is bread based .... it's looking less and less worthwhile... At least the steaks and burgers are (from what I can tell) 100% beef :-)

I'd say no. The meat doesn't taste good and they will spam you with advertising forever and ever. We bought something from them one time like 5 years and 3 addresses ago and we still get junk mail from them.

I think Omaha Steaks is just an upscale marketing ploy to push the SOS to a market willing to believe they are getting something special when they're probably not. I will also beat there is far more bread in that sole stuffing than crab, and as Kent pointed out, the dogs are full of the SOS as the worst of the SOS in the low end supermarkets. I'd pas and also try to go in with friend. Check into your nearest co-op, and start asking around at farmer's markets.

I can get a great deal on a meat package on Washington Street in Philly but chose to say NO- If I cannot get grass fed - and I know it is costly but buy in bulk with a freind, I will buy it local - a benefit living in New Jersey with every type of farm nearby. This deal is short on beef and big on seafood (neb????) and ground chuck - save your money and look around.
