+1. I think I'll refer folks to him whenever I get questions about gluten from now on. It was such a great reinforcement for me.

Ha! I found it earlier without using kosher magic--cause I don't have any. However I am left-handed so I'm very creative. :-))

I agree. I almost didn't listen to this presentation because it was another gluten post. (I know I get sick from it in various ways, so why would I listen to another talk about it?) Turns out I learned a LOT from this talk. I think it was really well done. He explained leaky gut issues a lot better than anyone I've read or listened to before.

I'm with you, I'd never heard of this guy and was thinking blah, blah, blah more gluten & gut issues. But he's pretty compelling.

With respect, I needed this info. If you go to his site, the info on what's in the supplement packs is very clear. I'm not planning to order at this time, but if I had known about the packs a year ago I WOULD have purchased some.

My ma and I both have forms of celiac, other members of my family are likely sensitive. His talk made everything a lot clearer.

This one surprised me. This guy was not even on my radar screen and I almost skipped over the presentation. "More stuff on gluten? No thank you!" Well I'm so glad I didn't listen to myself. Very well done. This is an easy-to-understand presentation of some complex concepts. Almost anyone could listen to this and come away with a better understanding of so many of the issues surrounding gluten sensitivity and many of the related issues. I actually learned some new things so this is my favorite presentation thus far.

This one made me pretty sad. If you were privileged to read my medical history, you would see 7 or more chronic problems now linked directly to gluten-triggered autoimmune responses including migraine, the gallbladder I no longer have, mild loss of coordination/balance, etc., etc., etc.

At NO time did a medical professional ever have a clue about what the pattern suggested. They didn't even recognize autoimmunity let alone gluten sensitivity.

So now I have NO hope of justifying additional holiday cheats with wheat, rye or barley (I'd already figured that out, but STILL.)

This was another clear, well organized presentation. You can tell he's done this one many times.

I really, really enjoyed this presentation. It's a great 101 on the gut and auto-immune disease. Given how much he dumbed it down for a lay audience (with all sorts of familiar metaphors) I suspect someone with a more expert knowledge may cringe, but it worked for me.

I particularly found the discussion about the differences between allergy, sensitivity, and intolerance helpful. For example, the skin prick tests only check for IgE anti-bodies and there are three others involved. Similarly, some blood tests only check for a specific gluten peptide, but there are lots of others. Finally, intolerance is neither an allergy or a sensitivity but an inability to digest a nutrient and thus create problems (like lactose intolerance as a result of the enzyme lactase).

He also has a great section in there which talks about the three things necessary for an auto-immune problem: a genetic susceptibiltiy, an environmental trigger (like gluten), and a leaky gut. If you have the latter two, then the result depends on the first. It could be celiacs (gut), but it could also be hashimotos (thyroid) or ADHD or autism (brain).

Interestingly, he's not down on all gluten and says the problematic one is the one in wheat, barley, and rye.

The promo for the supplement was way at the end of it and Sean brought it up. The goal of the supplement is to nutritionally support the healing that needs to occur after gluten is removed ... you can do this with a healthy diet, but for some folks, supplements can help this occur faster.

Now this was someone who went past the generalities and presented the nitty-gritty stuff in a comprehensible manner - bravo for this.

But instead of bluntly advertising his supplement, I would have liked to know what exactly the ingredients in it are doing....

This is great! What was his website again? I think my big issue with gluten has been its effects on my joints and muscles ceran wrap (apparently the body uses plastic rather than aluminum foil on the meat).

I really enjoyed this talk. He was a great speaker and I learnt so much. Things like what is the difference between and allergy and a sensitivity were very interesting to hear explained.

I hope to see him on the bill at many Paleo events in the future.

If I had not had a cancelled appointment, I might have missed this one, too. I had never heard of him, so at least wanted to catch part of it just to see who he is. This presentation is the BEST so far. He really knocked it out of the park! GREAT information, very engaging, smart, passionate. I loved his analogies. I can't wait to see more stuff from this guy.

This Dr. is a genius. If you missed you will need to see it somehow.

Test:

cyrexlabs.com

saliva first and then blood test

If you have a Biopsy then get an IEL count with it.

You need to 1) Stop Gluten 2) Heal dammage by taking more nutrients.

Very cool and very worth it. A summit in May on UW to discuss this even more.

Can't say enough about how cool this talk was.
