Do you think I got glutened?

I've been gluten free for 4 years. Been serious paleo for about 2-3 months. I've been doing awesome and better than ever! I lost tons of weight and have been feeling incredible!

I have celiac disease and when I consume even a trace amount of gluten I become a mess: migraine, facial swelling, exhaustion, GI problems, nausea, OCD, manic depression, self-consciousness, brain fog ... I hate the psychological symptoms especially. I have to constantly remind myself what I'm feeling is not real and its the gluten talking. I'm a functional, normal 24-year-old business professional but when I get glutened I feel like I need to be committed.

The past week my sinuses started flaring up, I had some GI trouble, and I got tired all the time. I slept for 17 hours yesterday. Then I started having an OCD episode and I can't let go of an issue that doesn't exist, and it is making me irrationally depressed. I know I'm not psycho, because I have ALL the gluten symptoms. I just can't figure out what I ate. I can only think of the following things I changed in my diet since this all started...

1) I drank a black coffee at a TGI Fridays and maybe it cross-contaminated (I drink coffee all the time)

2) I started eating a large amount of this almond butter every day; I recently heard unsprouted nuts in large quantities can cause inflammation

3) The only meat I ate in the past week was six eggs a day; I had more fruit and carbs than usual and not enough fat/protein. Insulin issue?

4) I stopped eating enough. Daily diet: 6 eggs a day, 2 paleo-friendly Larabars, an apple, some almond butter. That's it.

What do you think it is? I'm in the beginning of a relationship and my career and I really need to pull myself together.

It's stress. Chillax a bit.

No compelling reason, my week became hectic with family visiting. I gave into convenience and never got around to ordering more meat. I just placed an order with Grassland beef... I should be well stocked now. You're probably right about it being a safety issue. I am such a wreck now. Whenever I slip (which is rare), it's a predictable Jekyll and Hyde routine over the course of a week.

Well if that's the case, I haven't been eating meat at all! My life was hectic for the past week and I gave into convenience too much. I definitely need to restore some order to my diet.

Eggs aren't meat are they? Well not unless you let them hatch then bit their heads off.

Yes, cut back on the Larabars and nuts. Is there a compelling reason you're not eating meat or fish? More meat, vegetables, and fat along with reducing or, preferably, eliminating the nuts for awhile could be a good move.

Being glutened is always a possibility when eating in restaurants or buying prepared food. I don't risk it myself. It is more work to make your own food, but in your situation as you describe it, I'd consider it a safety issue.

Your diet doesn't look very balanced nutritionally. I'd cut back on the larabars and almond butter and add more greens and veg.

Perhaps introduce another form of protein beside eggs. Do eat fish?

On another note, I wonder if it was the coffee, I've had coffee in restaurants where I've been sick as a dog afterwards... hmmm...

I wonder if you could have food poisoning??

I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest that maybe food is not the originating issue, but has now served as a convenient scapegoat and source of distraction.

Just a thought. Good luck with your new job and hope your hectic week with family can find some relief.
