Uncharacteristic lower GI problems

So, my whole family was down with a cold last week, and I got it around Thursday.

I've still got it today :-(

Something that's came along for the ride, is a major bout of lower intestinal illness. Gas, bloating, and general discomfort.

I've worked to make sure my diet is as clean as possible, although last night I did have a cup of valerian root tea with a shot of whiskey and a very small amount of honey to open my sinuses before I slept.

Normally I cut back calories during illnesses, but my body has been telling me to eat. I've been eating eggs/bacon for breakfast, coconut oil with coffee, lunches have been liver, or leftover ground meat dishes (chili mostly, lamb shepherd's pie friday/saturday). Last night was a chuck eye steak with some curried cauliflower.

I have been additionally supplementing with 1000mg Vit C, 400mcg K complex (200mcg K1/K2), and ZMA for sleep. Besides the Vitamin C, everything else is the same.

This is how I normally eat, and find this particular bout of GI problems to be fairly distressing, as normally eating this way keeps me very "quiet" down below. Is this just the aftermath of post-nasal drip during my sleep?

P.S. despite allowing myself some carbs on friday and saturday (as I have done for the past month), my weight has not fluctuated at all (another odd instance), usually I'll get 1-2lbs of water gain after eating 150-170carbs (besides friday/saturday I'm under 60).

Any suggestions for alleviating this GI distress, and perhaps more importantly ending this cold a little faster?

Nance - I've been drinking this particular tea for years, it's the Yogi brand "Bedtime" tea. It's my added insurance in getting to sleep without the "Brain Train" running over-schedule.

@Joshua, and I must say I have trouble with a lot of herbal teas. Have you used that particular one before?

@Joshua, if it were me I'd definitely pamper my GI tract for a few days with lots of bone broth and pre-, probiotic foods. Try thinking about or looking at different foods and eat only those that a) appeal to you and b) taste good if you take a bite. Hope you feel better soon.

@Renee - I am very drug-phobic, specifically OTC. The only "cold remedy" is the one I mentioned above, herbal tea with some alcohol and honey.

have you been taking any cold remedies, throat lozenges etc? a lot of them contain sugar alcohols like sorbitol that can cause bloat.
