Do You Agree With Dr. Oz or Gary Taubes?

Did you see Gary Taubes on Dr. Oz this week? Well, there is now a poll about who is right. I voted for Taubes (but then I base my opinions on empirical science so what do I know). It's neck and neck right now. You can add your two cents and cast your vote too:

Oz likes round numbers more than accurate ones.

wow... I just listened to Taubes on Jimmy Moore's show while they were reviewing the Oz show. Taubes said exactly this. It's 6 calories. 100 is absolutely ludicrous.

I just watched this video and Oz said a pound of muscle burns 100 calories a day. WTF? Try 6.

Does it matter whom I agree with? Polls about factual matters are pointless, because the votes will not change reality. Whether or not I agree with Taubes, Oz, Darwin, Einstein or Al Gore will not determine whether or not they're right. That being said, the comments section can be useful, just as blogs and Q&A sites such as this can be useful. Our job is to discover and sort out reality, not to vote on it.

Does it really matter? Reality is, Dr Oz is on national TV - he reaches most everyone, especially those too lazy to do their own research ~ they'll take his word at face value. Taubes has a small but growing following and the little bit of tv exposure will help introduce him to the few who watch tv and actually "think" for themselves. The rest of us have to work hard at leading by example and maybe convert a few away from SAD a handful of people at a time.

OK I know this not really answering your question but...If Dr. Oz was so "right" why doesn't he help the one person that needs it the most --Oprah herself. I guess that goes to show you all that soy and grains--is good for you--NOT!
