A box of clementine oranges and a nasty sinus infection

I have a yucky sinus infection, enough to make me resort to antibiotics.

I don't want to be too graphic but the mucus often ends up in my digestive system and causes a lot of upset and effects.

I have not wanted to eat anything but citrus fruit so I have been indulging.

Now I am wondering if that is a good plan or not. It seems like my body might be looking for fiber to move the mucus, but I don't want to mess up my metabolism.

When I am sick, I crave sweet things. Might be something mental along the lines of comfort food

We tend to assume everything is personal preference, but I suspect biologically, we often tend to crave things we need, so there could easily be a biological mechanism behind it.

Not all of it :) but it does tend to drain to the stomach at night.

That seems possible, I also suspect it is partially comfort food. Oranges are something I find comforting.

Sounds good to me. It will help to dilute the mucus. Swallowing mucus on an empty stomach can cause upset.

It wont hurt your metabolism, especially if you are not eating anything else.

Hope you feel better soon.

i felt myself catching a cold last week so i went to the supermarket last weekend and bought a bag of oranges. i ate nine oranges in a 3 hour period and then slept 12 hours. in the morning the precursors to the cold was gone. what i seemed to forget is that i'm also pre-disposed to gout but have not had any attacks since going paleo 5 months ago. that streak ended two days after my gluttoning on oranges. apparently the fructose in that many oranges in one time made my gout flare up. so bummer. i am now getting over a mild case of gout but the silver lining is that i didn't catch a cold:)

Maybe it wants vitamin C. The need for C is said to be increased during times of illness.

Mucus is the body try to excrete a toxin out of the body. The best remedy I have found is the 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water once or twice a day. I think it restores acid to the gut to consume the bacteria that is causing the upset. Your citrus may be an intuitive attempt to change your gut flora over to the acidic side from the basic side of the PH scale but citrus contains too much sugar and thus continues to feed the upset rather than cure it.

I would also eliminate all dairy except for sugarless and very low sugar yogurt. Milk also has too much sugar in it. The major brands of flavored yogurt are no good...too much sugar. Although Greek Gods plain has a little sugar...it works for me if I have a stomach upset...but now with paleo...not very often. http://greekgodsyogurt.com/html/yplain.php

Try the ACV and let us know if it works.

Oil of Oregano is amazing at clearing mucus. It's nature's antibiotic.

I doubt it's the fiber. Unless the mucus is all in your digestive system.
