Random eating to scheduled eating, is one better?

I've heard people say our bodies are expecting food at the same times every day so it's preferable to have the same eating cycle each day say for example 3 meals a day at 3 specific times that remain constant. Others are pro randomness and eating whenever your hungry regardless of the time. Some say it doesn't matter when you eat but just how much and what you eat and some promote intermittent fasting on purpose or just randomly fasting a meal or two. Is one of these the most paleo? What is ideal and are any eating frequencies backed by science as being healthier or better for body composition or anything?

Depends on your goals and lifestyle.

If you live pretty sedentary style, with an office job, etc I'd say just eating when you want is fine. Smething in the IF manner I'd say.

If you're more on the athletic side with sporting goals I'd say eating generally, but especially the timing, is very important.

Goals dictate the path I'd say.

I eat only when my body tells me it is hungry and this can be very random. gave up eating by the clock years ago.

No two humans are alike. Some times "hunger" is thirst. If going for true "Grok" style than random because Grok didn't have a watch nor did he know what 3 hours was. Some times he only had a couple berries and a handful of nuts all day. Now that being said we know that isn't ideal eating habits. Eat around 5 times a day, if it ends up only being 3 one day,4 the next and 5 the day after, its fine. If you are training for something you will need to consume more though. Also our ancestors would FEAST from time to time too, so when you feel really hungry or know tomorrow will be a rough one, EAT EAT EAT, but eat well.

If you are eating by internal hunger cues than it doesn't matter.

Some people are wired to external cues like time of day and eat without being physiologically hungry. For these people it might be beneficial to randomize your eating schedule.
