I really like Ba-Tampte half-sour pickles....they are quite tastey, but they're so easy to make at home, I suggest giving it a whirl.
Homemade lacto-fermented (real) sauerkraut is just the best stuff on this planet when combined with a juicy, locally produced sausage.
Even though you aren't asking for book recommendations, I HIGHLY suggest reading Sandor Katz's Wild Fermentation or The Art of Fermentation. Plus, he's just a swell guy, as well.
