What's up with increased food, smell and other sensitivities

Recently I've noticed that I've had an increase in sensitivity to smells and possibly to some foods. The other day I could smell the ink when someone was running lots of copies at work. I had to leave. I've always noticed cigarette smoke, but someone walked up behind me at the deli counter the other night and right away my smoker detector went off. Made me sick to my stomach. I've noticed this to be much more acute recently.

I've also noticed that if I drink wine it affects me more. The big one though, came several weeks ago when I had some trail mix. I had suspected I might possibly be sensitive to peanuts. But they were always my road trip food, and it was difficult to tell. I'd get migraines on trips but I always attributed them to the driving or riding in the car. I've had long term neck and back problems. Within an hour of having some trail mix with peanuts, I got the worst migraine I'd had in awhile and then got a really bad back ache on top of it all. I was seriously fine one moment, then got up from sitting at a table and could barely walk. I ended up not being able to walk well for a week because of the inflammation. It was enough to convince me. I've been avoiding peanuts ever since. I've been gluten free for going on two years. Last night I cheated and ate one piece of regular pizza. I've cheated before, and it usually take several cheats before I feel yucky. I had not cheated in several months. I woke up feeling like crap this morning. This is the WORST reaction I think I've had with the gluten thing.

I've also had on and off colds since about the beginning of March. Have been exposed to lots of them, at work, from my own kids (who play soccer and do track in the elements) and probably being under some stress hasn't helped.

Have been about about 90% Paleo since January. Does being paleo have anything to do with this and what can I do to beef up my immune system? I'd been feeling terrific.

Interesting thought. Never considered that possibility. Maybe the Sniffer is getting better. I used to have a lot of the same problem, had to have tissues everywhere I went. Not so much, except for these recent colds.

Ah, no. Age 50, one ovary, tubal ligation. Happily enjoying grandbabies and fighting my way through the pre menopause stuff.

Any chance you could be pregnant? Sensitivity to various foods & smells was what tipped me off on both of my pregnancies.

My husband jokes that I have a super power. I have Wolverine's sense of smell. I can smell cigarette smoke across a parking lot. I smell what the neighbor's downstairs is cooking and lots of other things. I found that since dropping wheat and dairy my nose doesn't get stuffed up any more. I used to have a pile of tissues in my bed from constantly blowing my nose before going to bed and as soon as I woke up in the morning. I thought I had dust mites in my bed or something else I was allergic to. I haven't had any "snot rags" in my bed since January when I stopped the wheat and dairy.

Interesting that you are getting worse with Paleo .... Paleo almost completely reversed my exquisite aversion and violently ill reactions to chemical smells. It's one of the main reasons I sought Paleo in the first place. I don't really have an answer for this, but I know the longer I'm on Paleo the longer I am able to tolerate chemicals/perfumes/lotions, etc. They're still unpleasant but don't make me deathly ill to be around them.
