Pinworms pinworms pinworms worms of pin

What's a paleo way to get rid of pinworms?

I've heard of in-shell pumpkin seeds, carrots, apple cider vinegar, and pineapple (though it seems too carby to work effectively - the worms would feast instead of die). Is there any other food that would rid a body of these irritating parasites (combined with extra cleanliness of course)?

@oakOy, the anti-worm medicine is called mebendazole, which is available either as a generic or brand name (Vermox). It only requires 1 tablet (100mg) to treat most cases of pinworms. It is available without a prescription in some countries. Here is a drug summary: http://www.drugs.com/pro/mebendazole.html

Just name the substance of the medication and people can look up if they wanna go with the sideeffects or not. So people , some will rather choose a natural way than a chemical way. Yup, I second the d.e...we've dealt with pinworms that my daughter picked up, and I felt really torn about the over the counter medication. We ended up using it, but it didn't take care of the issue comlpetely...I ended up doing research, and talking with a doctor who I really trust, and learned that, while pinworms are gross, they are basically a harmless parasite. Most of us are walking around with some kind of parasite at any given time. I also discovered d.e. at that time, and we gave it a go...it did the job, and helped all of our skin, nails, hair and digestion to boot!

Sunflower seeds and vinegar? Pinworms are easily and safely treated with medication, why don't you go to your doctor? To be honest I don't really understand the paleo obsession with avoiding medications at all cost.

Diatomaceous Earth. It shreds the crap out of little parasites' digestive tracts. I've ordered it on Amazon, but you can get it at garden centers too (don't know if it would be human consumption grade if it was for your garden though). They might have it at a healthfood/herb store too.

Heres a link for some shopping options: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=diatomaceous+earth&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=16600082892265208242&sa=X&ei=EKJiTv7jOqLKiAKTsKmvCg&ved=0CEkQ8wIwAQ

If all else fails, you might be reassured to know that they are naturally self limiting, as in, if you don't do certain things, they will die off by themselves. You'll be having an itchy arse, especially at night until then...becasue that is when they come out to lay eggs...

Theirs is a fecal to oral route. They cause your anus to itch unbearably, you scratch it and then sooner or later, get your hands in your mouth. When you scratched your arse you picked up eggs they laid all around it, which is what causes all that itching... you ingest the eggs and bingo! - A whole new set of pinworms are on their way!

Wash sheets, wash hands, don't scratch your arse, keep your hands out of your mouth at all times, don't share towels and cloths used in bathing...

Break the lifecycle as described and bingo! You'll be free of them...

However...if you have children or others in the home...this is not quite so easy if they too have them.

Here's a link to check out -

If you use Diatomaceous Earth, be sure it is food grade. The stuff for pools is too large to be consumed without possible damage to your intestines. Raw pumpkin seeds are a vermicide that I have used successfully for dogs and horses. You need to fast for a day and then eat only raw pumpkin seeds for another doay. The amount would depend on your body weight. Check the dosage with a naturopath.

the barefootherbalist has some anti parasite tonics and write a lot on that. decide for yourself if its honest or fantasy. also there is one guy who says if you eat a supernutrisous plant based raw diet. the parasites go out of your body. His name is Dr. Robert ceasar http://www.youtube.com/user/EarthshiftProject. the Rawfoodist Markus Rothkranz has videos on Parasites.

The fear of using Allopathic medication is to kill the good gut flora and be overwhelmed by the emptyness of nothing. Allopathic medication probably kill all types of stuff in your body beside the pinworms.

Eat a bunch of chewing tobacco, thats how all the old hillbillies where I'm from take care of worms in dogs, cows, and pigs. Dont get the stuff in the can, its too filled with poison, get the stuff in the pouch, like Red Man, and eat it right up. Then brace yourself, your life will be ugly for a while.

I just found that: http://www.viable-herbal.com/combos/herbs/c220.htm

Black Walnut Hull / Absinthe

These herbs have been used historically to help rid the body of a wide range of worms, parasites and their eggs. Black Walnut is a wonderful natural alternative for promoting healthy regularity while nourishing the entire body. A fantastic source of soluble fiber, Black Walnut hulls are both safe and gentle. Additionally, this herb is used extensively as a vermifuge to expel internal parasites. Absinthe is perhaps best known because of the use of its oil to prepare certain alcoholic beverages, most notably vermouth and absinthe. Absinthe was used by traditional herbalists as a bitter to improve digestion, stimulate menstruation and fight worm infestations.

Don't know how good that works.

In my childhood I got raw garlic and carotts - and it worked.
