Is fruit real food? Or snack food?

I never really though of fruit as real food that you would eat in a meal. To me, fruit falls in the same category as nuts and seeds. They're good as snacks and that's it. I think they are nature's candy. I find it so easy to overeat or binge on fruits, they are not as satiating as real dense food, such as fatty animal meat and starchy veggies. What are your thoughts on fruit? Do they have theyre place in any healthy diet?

No kidding, it's weird how actual "candy" doesn't appeal to me, the excess artificial sugar doesn't even appeal to me anymore. It doesn't taste like real food.

Then why did you post the question if you already had your mind made up? It is real food. How much you choose to eat is just that: your choice. Eat it or don't.

Vegetables are more important and nutritious than fruits. To me, fruit is just candy with a few vitmans and antioxidants. It's not real food. Besides you can get most of the nutrients from fruit in other foods.

Pound for pound animal products are more satisfying for your appetite and are more calorically dense than fructose wrapped in fiber.

Yes it's real natural whole food that can be found in nature, it's just that fruit never satisfies me. I swear i have eaten about 7 bananas in one sitting once and was only half full and that was because of the fiber. I cut back on fruits and feel better. I feel like i dont really need the extra fiber and fructose. Most fruit is too sweet for me and they are expensive, especially organically grown fruit. Why pay $8 on a bag of apples when i can buy some chicken or fish with that money?

Fruits are not necessary as depending on seasonality, they were not always available. A lot of research is starting to come to light about metabolic pathways, fructose, and seasonality. It's some pretty cool stuff and it will be cool to see what comes out of it.

As for me, I typically consume fruits as a snack food and do not use them to fill my dietary requirements. Of course, after going hard core paleo for a long time, a piece of watermelon taste just like candy used too!

Yes, it's real food. Unless you have blood sugar issues, are trying to lose weight, or have other digestive issues, fruit can be a staple in your diet. Best summertime supper in my house? Honeydew melon and prosciutto. I have to limit the honeydew because I stay vlc due to T2 diabetes, but it is still filling and luscious.
