Does everyone do te 3-4 hours then eat, or wait till your hungry? Or follow the zone idea? Just curious :)

@RaiseFitness, I eat hourly for the nutrition and I'm on an autoimmune protocol (non-Paleo) so all of my food gets digested quickly. Thus I only feel full for a small window before that food is utilized for its nutrition and I poop it out.

I'm very routine-oriented. I tend to do my physical activity in the mornings, usually fasted, and I'll graze from around noon until 5-6. I tend to then have a huge meal each day, probably 60% or more of my intake in the evenings once I'm done for the day. I love to be in the kitchen, create different things and enjoy it. That's tough to do going from the gym to the office and running errands.

I do 18/6 intermittent fasting. I usually eat one big meal and one smaller, snack-sized meal during my 6-hour eating "window." It works really well for me, plus makes it a hell of a lot easier to keep the kitchen clean.

1-2 meals a day, depending...usually just one. Big and well balanced- meat, vegetable(s), sweet potato(es).

If feel I need a boost, I eat fruit, NOT nuts.

I am well "fat adapted," but that does not mean carbs do not play an important role in my diet. They provide nutrients, calories, help facilitate nutrient uptake, reduce cortisol, and definitely help make the meal satisfying.

Very lean and happy with my physique.

I eat lunch and dinner every day. usually that's about 1/2pm and 9pm.

In between I may have a whey shake before a workout and some sugar like coconut water or honey water post workout.

The first meal is smallish, around 5-700 calories. The second, dinner, is pretty big. I'll do 2000 calories at dinner. Then sleep.

I've been doing paleo for 2+ yrs, and if you can handle the IF, it really simplifies things.

Usually 3 meals a day, sometimes with a snack, sometimes only 2 meals*. I eat when hungry/don't if I'm not. That usually means that I have @ 6 hours after my breakfast, the largest meal of the day. Lunch and supper are closer together and smaller. I usually don't eat anything for 3-4 hours before bed, unless I have some chai w coconut milk.

I tried IFing. Turns out that doesn't work all that well for women.

*Right now I'm doing a Whole 30, so 3 meals a day, but still based on my hunger schedule, not the clock.

I mainly eat when I am hungry, but here is how it normally works out...

0700am, Three egg omlet (usually with spinach)

About 9ish I have a piece of fruit (usually banana or pear)

1100 or 1200 I do a salad with some form of protine

Between then and dinner (anywhere from 5:30-7:30) I eat some veggies, fruit, and usually some almonds if I am still feeling like I need something.

Dinner is normally a protine with a veggie medley. Sometimes I do a spaghetti squash and use an all natural spaghetti sauce, with ground beef of course.

Never more that thrice a day. usually twice, and sometimes once. If you are eating real food and are fat-adapted, you won't be hungry in 3-4 hours. If you want to keep from being fat-adapted and always dependant on being able to find paleo food options, keep snacking.

not really -it's just the matter of fat that people consume => people on diet three times per day have not enough fat than people on 2,1 times a day.

Talk about some good reading. I'm from old school BB methodology of eating every 2-3 hours. This is quite the switcheroo but feasible. I'd like to be eating only 1-2x a day and not stressing about all that is eaten.

Currently I fast from 6pm-7am but am hoping to shorten than window very soon.

Usually 2-3 times a day. It depends. My schedule is constantly changing so I don't have the luxury of having a kitchen available to me when I do get hungry so sometimes I have to eat as soon as I wake up. I used to wake up ~6 now I wake up ~9 because I don't need to be up early. I typically have a cup of coffee with 2-3 tbspn heavy cream. My first meal typically falls between the ~12-2PM window, depending on how quickly I become hungry. My second meal typically falls ~5-8PM window. If I can't get a second meal in (ie: running late from work, going straight to class), then I usually snack on something small like nuts around that time. And eat at the end of the day ~11pm. I don't like doing that, but sometimes it happens. Optimally I prefer my last meal ~8, which gives me a nice little fasting window.

Three meals, when hungry, at least 5 hrs btw meals. Eg breakfast 9am, lunch 2pm, dinner 8pm. Occasionally an early evening snack. I could imagine going to twice daily quite easily (eg 11am and 5pm) but that's impossible with my work/family life.)

Paleo-Zone all the way!

In addition to how many meals, that also takes care of the portion control, down to how much proteins/carbs/fat to consume in one meal (in relation to one another: 7/9/1.5).

However, I have hacked the amount of meals a bit from Zone diet, so that I actually eat 7 meals a day, with four of the meals being before/after a workout (running in the morning, weight training in the evening) every day.

Lean chicken meat, fruits, olive oil (not sure if that is Paleo, but it is recommended in Zone), and water/coffee, basically. A meal every 4h, not including the workout meals, which are an hour apart.

Today is about 1138 kcal day, which means my diet program also falls under Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition (CRON) category (a proven anti-aging concept).

When it seems that I start to lose muscle mass instead of gaining it, I just add to the portion sizes.

LOL. Very well, Sir. I am glad you think that way- insulin is very beneficial. Having chronically elevated insulin is not healthy, but spiking insulin temporarily while eating is. Otherwise, we'd be type 1 diabetics and die!

...if he/she is so concerned about being fat adapted, then he/she is probably also under the impression that insulin is bad, and yet eating a large protein meal is an insulin bomb!

Thats my point? Why are you eating every two hours? are you hungry? if so, why not just eat more? Are you out of energy? then you aren't fat adapted

How could you eat more that twice in an 8 hr feeding window?

If I had a nickel for every time I saw you say fat-adapted...look dood, if you're like the rest of the population, you can eat when you're not super hungry, just like you can stave off hunger when you are hungry. Some days with nothing to do, all you can do is look forward to eating to break up your day.

RaiseFitness, what is with offering your implied opinions of people's eating schedules. I can't fathom why you'd care.

@RaiseFitness, I eat hourly for the nutrition and I'm on an autoimmune protocol (non-Paleo) so all of my food gets digested quickly. Thus I only feel full for a small window before that food is utilized for its nutrition and I poop it out.
