Help! I'm allergic to beef!!!!

Answered on August 19, 2014
Created August 08, 2012 at 5:11 PM

I had an allergy test done back in January 2012 and was told that I was moderately allergic to Beef, Cow Dairy, and Gelatin. I recently had some high quality non-homogenized but pasteurized cow yogurt to test myself and I had a reaction. I have been using goat and sheep products but those are tougher to find. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how I can reintroduce the beef and dairy or am I hopeless?

Thanks, Michael

I feel ya, I'm allergic to seafood, eggs, nuts. Sucks having integral things eliminated.

Yogurt of any ilk doesn't have enough bugs to restore your intestinal flora unless you're eating quarts of it a day. If you're also eating naturally fermented vegetables, it might be a decent option, but really, if you're struggling with serious food sensitivities, you need a probiotic that provides more than 30 million bacteria per serving -- OH... and be aware that when you start taking it, you may experience flu-like symptoms from the die-off of the nasty bugs currently populating your intestines.

Why avoid it? I mean if it upsets you or you cannot tolerate it then yes. Fermented foods are helpful. GAPS diet would likely help you. Like I said, I took the quicker, easier (to me) and likely more expensive way out to heal my leaky gut (in other words I didn't do GAPS). Foods with live probiotics is great - but it may not be enough. U take 50bill per day.By comparison, my "full GI restoration" using VSL3 was 450 bill. TWICE PER DAY (one VSL packet twice a day). Some people have to start with less and work up.

"Many beef allergies are caused by ticks and can be cured." Can you elaborate on that, please? Allergies caused by ticks? Or the bacteria residing in them? Is lyme one of them? How can it be cured? Please explain.

BSA is heat labile. So unless Michael is eating a lot of raw/ undercooked meat, then BSA is not the allergy.

I second on a good probiotic supplement in the refrigerator section. You need something powerful and active.

BSA = bovine serum albumine, most common allergen in beef and is present in milk as well

There is no quick fix that I've found -- however, after 2 years on a GAPS-style program, I've found that I can eat moderate quantities of many foods I couldn't eat before, with no real digestive issues.

In terms of meat, though, there are a LOT of options. If possible, I'd drop the dairy completely for a while, instead of substituting goat/sheep dairy. Meat options can include all kinds of things... fish, poultry (chicken, cornish hen, turkey, quail, pheasant, ostrich), goat, lamb, mutton (sheep), venison, rabbit, seafood.... there are so many options.

Next, I'd recommend a REALLY GOOD pro-biotic. There are a couple of excellent ones on the GAPS site, or you can check the refrigerator section of your local health-food store for a probiotic supplement with a minimum of 30 million bacteria, guaranteed.

It isn't fast, and it isn't easy -- but it worked for me.

So this was a blood test, right?

To me, it means you have a leaky gut.

I think Firestorm is onto something here... heal your GI system. Probiotics will help. GAPS is very helpful for many.

I personally took the easy way out and along with a high protein, high vegetable and saturatated fat diet I used "medicine".
Its called PermaVite by Allergy Research Group and it worked. I used it along with a clean diet, HCL/Betaine, and a high dose of probiotics (two packets of VSL3 per day or 2 weeks, then 1 packet per day for 3 months, now maintenance using Klaire Labs).

I did pre and post testing for GI Permeability and it cured my leaky gut.

Good luck to you.

well beef is not one thing. Ask your allergist what you are allergic to in beef. I have never heard of someone being allergic to beef AND milk. Many beef allergies are caused by ticks and can be cured.

If you really cannot find any other solution, let me introduce you to my friends Bambi and Lamby.

I second the GAPS diet approach and recommend the Body Ecology Diet as well- both focus on rebuilding your system and repairing your gut and eventually being able to return to eating most foods. I know people who have been able to eat things they never thought they would again after rebuilding their gut via those diets.

If you're actually allergic (having an immune system reaction), you could get allergy immunotherapy. It was well worth it for me, but I have about a billion allergies.

Alternately, you could just not eat beef or dairy? There are plenty of other types of red meat you can cook up (not to mention poultry, fish, game, etc.) and non-cow dairy products.

I probably isnt just beef you are allergic to, it is ALL mammal meat...this includes milk. Please do not listen to idiots about "cleaning out" your gut etc. Sometimes this allergy fades over the years, sometimes it lasts forever. probiotics will do nothing for you
