Dirty Secrets and Non-Guilty Pleasures

Answered on August 19, 2014

We've all got them since we switched: The foods we now relish and savor and gorge on, those that would otherwise be shunned or deemed gross or wildly unhealthy on the SAD. What is your paleo version of your dirty food secret or (now) non-guilty pleasure? The equivalent of massive spoons of JIF from the jar, ketchup on white rice, cheese wiz straight into your mouth, etc. Not talking gourmet - I'm talking easy, quick, delicious, the type of food you grab straight from the fridge or pantry or bottom of the pan, sure to be declared your leading cause of death by all your non-paleo friends.

I'll start:

Liverwurst, squeezed straight from the tube into my mouth.

I just finished an entire 12 ounce liverwurst from US Wellness Meats over the course of 5-6 days. In my usual way: slice of liverwurst + slice of onion + mustard + cream cheese. OMG - to die for!

To that I have to add the soft marrow ends of chicken wing bones and going straight with your incisors at the parts of the T-bone that your knife and fork just can't get.

Greek Yogurt w/ sliced frozen bananas, dark coco powder (pref. Valhrona), shaved 99% chocolate, coconutflakes, chunks of nut butter (it tastes almost like little bits of cookie dough), a little vanilla bean... stab mixture w/ your spoon until the frozen banana turns the greek yogurt into a ice-creamy texture... Creamy, rich, & dark. Mmm.

I personally like to roll around in nut butters. Sometimes if I'm feeling frisky...I'll portion out some cherries, spoon a little cocoa almond butter on top and then a couple spoonfuls of coconut oil. Stick it in the freezer for 5 minutes..BOOM Paleo Magic shell.

I may be guilty of eating a jar of honey in the better part of a day...once at the bottom, my fingers no longer able to reach said bottom, I may have, on occasion, when no one was watching...brought the jar to my lips and attempted with my tongue, to get at the precious crystals that teased at me from the glass bottom, only to see my partner through the glass bottom looking on in horror, saying nothing, she just walked backwards out of the room....

...don't judge me...my spoon skills are still coming along..

Truth.
