That is can chocolate or cacao (in iteself -- not the sweetners here!) cause diarrhoea? Especially in excess?

I know that for some unknown reason if I consume to mush cacao (unsweetened) cacao (or cocoa) or unsweetened chocolate -- especially in excess, I have to make a mad run to that Great White Porcellean Throne and experience a pyroclastic erruption of that hot brown lava flow!  Anyone else out there who gets profuse diarrhoea from cacao or chocolate?

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssss.

Real answer: Chocolate seems to work wonders for getting things moving for me. I can see that easily translating to diarreah in someone who is more sensitive to it. It has caffeine, which can signal the bowels to start doin' there thang, and it also has theobromine, which is similar to caffeine. A double-whammy!

I also have lots of cacao and have not experienced this. I mean, how much could you possibly have in one meal - a spoon or two? Coffee has a mild laxative effect and cacao has a few things in common with coffee. But it wouldn't give you diarrhea. Any chance you combined it with some kind of substitute sugar? that on the other hand can give you diarrhea!
