Any rules on combining foods?

In the book "Unlimited Power" by Tony Robbins, the claim is made that different types of foods require different types of digestive juices, and that not all digestive juices are compatible. For example, starchy foods require an alkaline digestive medium, whereas protein foods require an acidic medium. If these foods are consumed together, the digestive mediums will neutralize each other and digestion will be impaired.

Here's the chart in the book: http://www.healthyeating-tips.com/digestion%20chart2.gif

Is this legit? Helen and Scott Nearing of "The Good Life" ate according to this, and seem to have done alright. I'm just curious what science has to say about it, and what you folks here at PaleoHacks think.

Sorry, this question: http://paleohacks.com/questions/82815/any-rules-on-combining-foods#axzz1lYDOZRT9 is a duplicate of yours. And there are others.
