For those of you who do not do well with FODMAPs, what is your usual reaction time? Can you tell within like an hour, a day, 36 hours? Does it vary?

I have just recently found that I have a sensitivity to FODMAP foods. I completely eliminated them to determine reintroduce them one at a time to see which one I am have the most problems with. I usually react within an hour of eating. The pain comes on very quickly and there is no relief. My son often gets me the hot water bottle, but that offers little help. I don't have vomiting or diarrehea-just extreme pain. As a result, I get no relief from the pain. It slowly subsides after about a long 30 minutes. I become fatigued and need to lay down. For at least a week later I'm having pain but at a level 2 on a scale of 10. I carry a list FODMAP foods in my purse so I avoid them at all cost. I also cut out gluten.

Thank you for your responses. I get confused because I can feel fine and then pain and discomfort start pretty quickly after I eat a meal and usually are the worst about an hour after I eat. It makes me think that meal caused the issues.

The stomach empties in about 2 hours, another 2 hours and the small intestine is emptying into the large intestine where microbal action takes place. So approximately 3-4 hours after consumption is the earliest you'll have effects.

I'd say it varies, depending on the person. Two people who have fodmaps sensitivity usually get it within 15 hours though.
