Hack my Haze/derealization/Poor Focus?

Answered on August 19, 2014

Hi all. Paleo cured my depression, anxiety, IBS and CFS. Following Matt Stones metabolism advice cured my low energy and food intolerances.

But I still have this one problem of disconnection with the real world, a sort of haze, possibly de-realization, like I'm watching life through a TV. I first noticed it as a teenager, if I spend more than a few hours looking at a computer monitor I would be 'zoned out' for the rest of the day.

It's not as bad as it used to be and might go away in time but it's still there and affects my day to day life. I just want to wake up in the morning again and be fully awake, being able to focus on things.

My diet is high carb paleo, seems to work best for me, have tried all low carb approaches. Not overweight.

Has anyone suffered the same problem? How do I fix it?

5g/day for a week now. Nothing except dull headaches and being more sensitive to panic attacks in the evening.

I use approx 5-6g mixed with water 1st thing in the morning... for some people it takes a while to become more aware. Keep going... When I originally used it, took a few weeks for cognition to come back. I ran out of the product, started to eat dairy and the fog came back.. Make sure you're not eating anything that you might be intolerant to. 2.5g won't do anything for me.

Nothing to report after two days of 2.5g/day. Questions: 1) Does it have to be 5g? I can't find powder. 2) How long should it take to notice a difference?

Do some research regarding fibromyalgia/CFS/ME and Acetyl L-Carnitine. It's all there, it really works! Makes life fun and worth living instead of being 'dislocated from reality' as I call it. I use Genetix Nutrition 100% pure Acetyl L- Carnitine (I'm in Australia) Here's to good health! P.S. I've lost 25kg following the paleo diet over the last 6 months and look fantastic! Unfortunately I still couldn't shake the lethargy/brain fog. I believe this is due to me fighting my food intolerances most of my life. The ALCAR snapped me out of it within a few days!

I have had derealization/depersonalization disorder the last 15 years of my life (im 31 yr old female). I've tried hacking it with foods, therapy, supplements, even medication (does not help at all). What I have found that works best is to just get out of the house, stay busy, and don't think about it. I know it's hard, but I'm much happier when I'm not trying to "fight" this, my Dad has the same thing so I assume it's hereditary. I am willing to try out the supplement mentioned here. I'd love to be "cured" but I'm ok and functional as long as I get out, get fresh air, socialize, and yes eat healthy. It's never gone away 100% but becomes very bearable. Good luck, I know how much this sucks.

I have the same issue, cognition is impaired. The fix is...

Acetyl L carnitine! I have approx 5 grams mixed with water on an empty stomach every morning.

Reality comes back... Haze clears, thoughts clear...

Give it a try!

For me, brain fog is almost always food related. You say you're doing "high carb" paleo but don't elaborate on what exactly you're eating. Look at what you're eating daily or close to daily and eliminate ONE from your diet for a few weeks. If nothing changes, eliminate something else.

You also say the problems start at a computer. Another option is either orange glasses or installing F.lux on your computer and letting it run 24/7 instead of going by daylight.

Have you looked into GAPS? This seems to be the most promising protocol for fixing all sort of hardware-based cognitive issues, such as difficulty focusing.

There is the possibility of food allergies causing you to feel this way. I urge you to read this person's post about his food allergies and brain fog/derealization: http://tinyurl.com/bgm37q6

I have the exact same problem you describe. Most people's derealization is caused by anxiety, but ours is different. I am working on fixing it.

Many of the older properties in London and even some of the newer ones are prone to drainage problems. With everything from root growing into pipes, your own home waste blocking the pipe, to leaves and gravel being washed into the storm drains, there are a million and one things that can cause pipes inside and outside your home to be blocked..... drain cleaning london
