Maximising flatulence

Answered on August 19, 2014

Supposing you've been stuck in a car for a long trip with someone who kept on letting them go and laughing his head off and so you decided to get even on the way back. What's the best hack for maximising flatulence production?

--> Question: why is discussion on flatulence "blatantly offensive"?

It must be the "hacks". I thought it was about getting stuff done based on knowledge of paleo. No harm dude.

I was under the impression that Paleohacks was about following Paleo lifestyle and Paleodiet. I could be wrong though.

The purpose of food is whatever the brain connected to the mouth that's eating it decides it is. The question is, what's the purpose of paleohacks? Because I thought it was about sharing knowledge on how our bodies work..

Actually, I think that the whole purpose of food is to support your body and provide it with the right nutrition. The purpose of eating is not for fun or for gas production - it is a byproduct. So I kind of think that it is not Paleo to eat foods to make smelly farts. It is Paleo to eat foods that taste good and make your body feel perfect. So in other words, if your motive was more politically correct, I would not reply.

Striking another person in the face with your metacarpals is also not beneficial for the metacarpals but I don't see questions being closed about martial arts

If you want to fart - go ahead, you have the right to do it. All you had to do is re-word your question. For example, "eating what foods result in the loudest, smelliest, nastiest farts?" omitting all the details.

since when is paleohacks about behaviour? i thought it was about getting your body to do what you want it to do. if i want to fart ill fart. and if i want to know how to best fart then i have a right to ask fellow hackers

paleohacks is not here to judge behaviour but to apply knowledge about the body and nutrition to achieve goals

@Paleo pomeranian - it is not a question that is offensive, it is the behavior. If your parents taught you that farting is a form of communication, that's just plain wrong.

It is not the question that is absurd, it is the behavior. I hate that "monkey see monkey do" stuff. I have actually witnessed people doing things like that. If one behaves dumb, the other one has to do it too?

Blatantly offensive? Farting is good and healthy, ain't it? It's also a form of communication.

Why not lighten up a little, and save teh value judgements...? Not every question on PH is going to be about what is 'normal' to you, and I daresay the 'problem' you characterise the 'abnormal' flatulent prone person described in the original post doesn't need to be characterised that way...

@Wakaanai, I ate raw sweet potatoes only because (1) was experimenting with various foods at that time, and sweet potato is rated #1 in nutrition in recent articles; and (2) I did not feel like cooking the ones I purchased. Relatively safe to eat raw, and has lower glycemic index than baked or boiled, and (surprisingly) taste great raw. The big ones I purchased had a huge juicy, sugary core. Which tasted as good as any commercial confectionery. The little ones, not as much. Btw, I quit because I have blood sugar issues and now restrict myself to small purple sweet potatoes.

Raw sweet potatoes? That sounds dangerous. I wouldn't attempt to eat even a couple bites of raw sweet potato. I can't imagine eating 2-3 lbs. Holy shit. Am I missing something here?

i'm not sure if this works for "most people", but years ago when i started eating raw eggwhites, i sometimes mixed it with wheatbran, and that usually created that rotten egg smelling gas..

i once saw a forum post about a guy drinking 10 eggwhites every morning, and someone replied and asked if that didn't give him alot of gas, but he said no ...i asume that either his stomach has become used to digesting raw eggwhites, or because his stomach are not filled with starch (in case my theory is correct; raw eggs + raw starch = gas)

there might be a risk that you get diarrea and/or stomach pains..

I can only speak for what "works" for me.

Three things: (1) I believe my body stopped processing lactose at age 16, upon which drink milk would cause me flatulence over the next few hours. (2) Cabbage. The first time I ate cabbage in large quantity, though apparently no longer has this effect on me.

And the "best" way to produce the most flatulence has been to:

(3) Eat two or three 1 pound or slightly heavier RAW orange sweet potatoes a day... that would keep me going for the next 24 hours or more. Presumably that was due to the massive bulk of fiber.

I don't recommend #3 for long car trips though, because they also make you "super-regular".

Depends on your particular pattern of health issues, e.g. for someone with SIBO the answer would perhaps be different than somehow without this condition, or with a different one.

  1. I find this question quite dumb because a normal self-respecting person would NOT ride with a person who behaves like a jerk. If another person is letting himself go - tell him to stop the car, get out and come up with an alternative solution. The best thing you can do is drive them to the emergency room and tell the doctor "my friend is having a bloating problem, is there anything you could do?" Your friend would not be continuing then.

  2. A normal self-respecting person would not GET BACK at the other person. Paying back is for middle school teens, it is immature and not cool.

  3. If you really want to increase your gas production, check out videos with Mr. Methane. He uses some kind of liquid to produce nasty-smelling farts.
