Paleo Summit Hack-a-thon: Erwan Le Corre, 2/27

Answered on August 19, 2014
Created February 27, 2012 at 2:25 AM

What: The Paleo Summit (see also this post)

Who: Erwan Le Corre ??? Founder, MovNat

Topic: MovNat: Moving Naturally. Our ancestors never set foot in a health club. Instead, they stayed lean and physical fit by moving instinctually ??? walking, running, crawling, jumping, climbing, and more. Erwan presents how to regain your instincts for meaningful movement by moving naturally.

What did you think of Erwan's presentation?

Yeah, a brisk walk in a 25-mph desert "breeze" is more than enough adventure for me. :-))

Thanks Karen. I tend to do things like packing loads of bricks around making walkways or wheel-barrowing loads of sand. I also do all the exterior and interior painting both in Mexico and in Canada. With two knee replacements that is probably enough for me.

AnnaA, MovNat is completely scalable and not about being young or old, it's about being human. I mean, I'm all for folks doing whatever strikes their fancy, but it really is awesome stuff. I'd hate for people to miss out due to a perceived obstacle.

Sorry for the downvote, but watching the presentation first should've convinced you that MovNat is nothing about big boobs or six pack abs, or any physique goals. Their point is that by getting in touch with human-specific movements, your body will naturally align physically.

I'm sure there were cavewoman with big boobs. They just hung lower. As for the abs who knows. Modern hunter gathers tend to have visible abs.

I said in the original thread that I'd be posting these the night before. There are early morning PHers, so I wanted these to be available just in case.

Ohhhh, just could not get into this AT ALL!! Anybody else have trouble listening to people talk about exercise? He has such a cute accent, and makes me run out west to take a class from him.

Nothing Erwan said is likely to get my almost 65 year old body out climbing trees and jumping along rocks, but it may motivate some younger folks.

I can get in enough sh*t just doing what i already do I'm afraid.

I didn't get to listen to the whole thing... after 18 minutes it cut out on me and I couldn't get it back even though it was still 11:42 PM PST. Oh well. That said...

I had a harder time listening to Erwan due to his accent, but the general subject material of MovNat appears quite sound. The problem I had with the interview format is that it came off more as a MovNat radio infomercial than it did Erwan discussing why training primarily natural, efficient movements are better for humanity than calisthenics, barbell training, Nautilus style machines, kettlebell training, gymnastics or any other mode of intense physical activity. I was able to derive why that might be the case through deductive reasoning and my personal interest and experience with physical fitness... but that has less to do with the presentation than my own knowledge.

Most of the other Summit interviews seem to focus more or less on a specific topic or two related to Ancestral health with only a few minutes to plug any particular website or product the presenter advocates. I know Sean and Erwan didn't intend it this way, but the line of questioning and the answers just seemed too 'MovNat this, MovNat that' and not enough of the theory, how and why, leading up to a 'by the way, now Erwan's going to plug MovNat.'

For now, I have doubt in my mind. After all, cavemen didn't have physique goals; neither did they have big boobs or six packs.

Of course health is important and a person with contest level physique could be very unhealthy. However, at least for me I have some kind of physique goal on top of health. It will be interesting listening to the presentation.

I learned nothing from the presentation. I am still not sure what a natural movement is and how its scalable. He also uses efficiency in a strange way which makes no sense.
