Why can I only eat CANNED tuna and CANNED clams?

I can only eat canned tuna, and canned clams/bottled clam juice, as far as seafood goes. It's the only allergy I've had my whole life. I've never tried canned salmon.

I basically vomit after any fish or seafood, always, and I have had anaphylactic reactions to shellfish.

Can anyone offer an explanation?

Yeah- Dogs even vomit with vaccination reactions! I appreciate your input too, John, but no need to be harsh!

Vomiting is a sign of allergic reaction http://health.howstuffworks.com/diseases-conditions/allergies/food-allergy/shellfish/common-fish-allergy-symptoms.htm especially those related to seafood.

He has tingling and "itching" in his mouth, no rash or vomiting because he stops the minute he feels it, I imagine if he pushed it he would start feeling poorly. He recently had allergy testing done for Eosinophilic Esophagitis, came up highly allergic to all finned fish. Oddly enough, he came up positive for hazelnuts which cause the same mouth itching, and dairy which causes GI upset. The world of food allergies is complicated indeed. I say skip the canned Tuna.

A rash would definitely indicate a histamine or allergic response.

Tell you "naturopath" to go back to his school and ask for his tuition money back because it is not. Look it up. http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/cold-guide/common-cold-or-allergy-symptoms

Nope, vomiting can definitely be a sign of an allergy! That one I know. I've discussed it with the naturopath, and I'm a vet nurse myself!

vomiting IS NOT an allergic reaction. Anaphylaxis, swelling, rash, etc are indicative of allergy.

I think I'm allergic, because I do like it- But I also like to vomit it within 2 hours.

Thank you! I haven't been eating canned fish since I was on the SAD. However, I was trying to make sense of my allergy!

Thank you. That's what I've been doing to be safe, but I keep reading all of these great health benefits of fish, and my allergy seems to be very specific.

A couple of possibilities:

???Sometimes there are different species in canned products then in fresh. Those differences might be enough to change the allergenic profile.

???Canned products are subject to high heat. This will denature the proteins. If the proteins you are allergic to are sensitive to this it might render them non-allergenic to you.

Hopefully you are careful even when eating canned products, canning practices differ and allergies can change.

My husband can eat canned Tuna but not any fresh finned fish. His allergist recommended that he skip the canned Tuna as well because while he wasn't having overt allergy symptoms, his body was probably still producing a histamine response, especially in his GI tract.

You are allergic to shellfish. Shellfish come in two categories, molluscs and crustaceans. You are allergic to crustaceans, but not molluscs. You're probably also allergic to bony fish, or perhaps you just don't like bony fish. You probably shouldn't eat any fish or shellfish just to be safe.

I dont know if this is helpful, but I can eat any shellfish and swordfish, as well as canned tuna and salmon - along with worcester sauce and salad dressings, but fresh fish WITH SCALES create and immediate hive, when even touching my lips. I am unclear about the relaitonship between fins and scales, but I do know that following the rule "if it's kosher, I am allergic to it" works for me.
