Leaky gut 101 ?

Someone on here suggested I might have a leaky gut a while back and last night I did some research. I have a fatty liver and apparently liver dysfunction and leaky gut are related. How can I heal this? I already eat fairly tight paleo. After reading this question it made me realize that fish oil will probably be really good for me in a lot of ways and that it takes time to work (I was discouraged before when my whole foods brand fish oil didn't seem to be having any effect) and am gunna pick up some Nordic Naturals fish oil this weekend. Other than that, where should I begin?

What kind of medical doctor should I see? No it is not alcohol-induced.

Usually fatty liver preceds T2 diabetes and metabolic derangement. However, taht doesn't mean you will go from fatty liver to T2 or to other diseases. You can stop it right there if your metabolism isn't damaged enough. How elevated are your liver enzymes and do you know if you're insulin resistant? I would check HbA1c and fasting and postprandial blood sugar. Even if you have fatty liver, I don't think you can conclude that you have gut permeability. If you do have fatty liver, the first you wanna establish is whether it is alcohold or non-alcohol induced.

You might wanna start reading about going gluten-/casein-/and dairy-free.

I would read Alessio Fassano's recent findings about celiacs and how the pathogenesis of gut permeability may apply to different autoimmune diseases.

Then I would explore ridding certain foods from your diet, specifically gluten and dairy. Then, if you wanna refine it, look into avoiding eggs and nightshade vegetables.

Do you actually know that you have fatty liver based on a liver function test and an imaging study?
