ive been pale since monday after years of junk food dieting.

since then ive had no bowel movements, and im starting to have abdominal pains.

this has happened before, and clears right up when i go back to junk food.

my diet is about a pound of ground grass fed beef, green leaf lettuces like spinach and romaine, squash, sweet potatoes, onions, maitake mushrooms and cauliflower (so far thats everything since monday.)

what do you think is going on? how do i fix it?

I agree. Not pooping for more than 24 hours is not natural.

After 5 days, I would give myself an enema. The stool has no doubt hardened in your colon and needs to be re-hydrated in order to pass. All the fiber in the world won't do you any good if you can't get the old stuff out now. Tilt your pelvis up and let the enema solution sit inside you as long as possible. You want it to work its way up your colon.

You either need more fibrous plants and vegetables of the kind you list OR you need less plants and vegetables of the kind you list (because one or more might be blocking you up). Also try a large dose of fat to see what happens.

600 mg Magnesium citrate before bed should do it.

As others have mentioned, a large dose of Mg Citrate should do the trick.

Also large doses of vitamin C and xylitol work wonders for this (as I discovered unintentionally over Christmas..)

More importantly, I'm unsure as why anyone else hasn't said this. But it's not good to go that long without a bowel movement. If Mg doesn't do the trick, I would see a doctor, you can get extrememly sick from not passing waste.

There are a lot of natural laxatives that you can research here or other places. Some foods do it for different people, for example cooked spinach does it for me, and sweet potatoes and cooked greens keep me regular.

Junk food contains lots of things that can make you "go" but is otherwise very bad for you. You should try to figure out how to get the mail moving without going back to Wendy's.

See if eating more starch / drinking more water / decreasing meat intake to half a pound works.

I came from a fast food background as well. Magnesium alone did NOT help me. Here's what helped me get regular.:

  1. I had to eliminate a lot of food using the GAPS protocol, basically down to vegetable juice, bone broth, and raw egg yolks. It looks like you've got most of that but try what she calls a "GAPS milkshake": a combination of juice blended with egg yolks and a healthy dollop of fermented cream (sour cream)

  2. Probiotics

  3. Digestive Enzymes and Betaine HCL

I do also supplement with magnesium and Vitamin C, but those weren't t enough.

Another thought, I think it's best to not to eat the same thing every day. I hear you can develop food allergies, especially if you have a leaky gut.

There is such a thing as bowel hoarding, one of my special needs work clients has this problem. She does not poop but once every week or two. I have seen longer. She takes 6 fiber capsules a day along with mineral oil and something else, can't think of the name. But when she goes she GOES and it clogs the toilet every time. Luckily I do not have to take care of her when she uses the restroom ( i work nightshift ).

But I have just gone paleo for the past 4 days, first two days sucked, I had withdrawals and felt awful. My stomach was killing me on the second day, when I finally went I think all the bad stuff came out cause I have never seen that much waste come out of me in my whole life. I have not gone since though =(. Coffee always does the trick but it isn't now. I recommend Senna Tea. I will be drinking it tomorrow if I have no luck today. It can cause stomach cramps, which I am not looking forward too. I have been eating lots of veggies and fruits, so I am getting plenty of fiber. The tea is called Smooth Move and it should be in the health food section of your grocery store. Good luck.

Also, have you tried cocnut water? It contains plenty of magnesium and is a laxative for me if I drink 2-3 cups at a time.

Eat prunes a couple a day till you get regular. Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water. You can put mint or lemon in your water to give a little labor. I have the same problem when i eat too much red meat so add some fish and chicken to your diet

This is a problem for everyone, Paleo or not. We once lived in a magnesium rich environment and now we do not. We are all magnesium deficient. Magnesium supplements (capsules) are generally laden with very bad oils (magnesium sterate or steric acid) and these bad oils are sometimes cotton seed and soybean oil and mostly rancid or hydrogenated. These oils are added to powdered materials so as to provide a lubricant to the high speed capsule machines, nothing more, so greed. LOL! Imagine a supplement company doing this. I've asked many of them why and they are incensed at the question.

Sorry for the rant however, your bowel sluggishness or constipation is best resolved by magnesium, specifically for me oxy-powder. I took herbals for 40 years and now I'm free. Realize that since we no longer live in a magnesium rich environment, you will need to supplement with magnesium for life and believe me, you'll be glad you do in the long run.

Fiber is a sham and perpetrated upon man by well meaning persons. The efficacy of fiber rich diets is in question and scrubbing your colon with fiber is while effective to some extent it is an irritant. Anthropological poop studies do not prove anything.

The oxy-powder formulation has proved to be the most absorbed magnesium I've ever experienced, the most astounding thing about it. The discussion of poop and it's proper consistency is the question. I believe early man was in the circumstance of s**t and get or be gotten, leaning toward a loose stool but not an herbal induced necessity to run to the bathroom. We need magnesium chloride in our diet and more so eating Paleo. Magnesium Chloride and Hydrogen give us the hydrochloric acid we need to digest the proteins.

If you do not have SIBO, get some prunes, soak them water, then warm this thing up and drink it. You will get some cramps, but it will clean you out.

You can add some organic Greek yogurt to your prune mixture - again, if you do not have SIBO.

Another thing to try is fermented vegetables - raw sauerkraut and raw pickles. They will definitely make you go. If one pickle won't, four pickles ought to do the trick.

What is good about prunes, yogurt and fermented foods - they are actually foods, not substances. No danger of overdosing and NOTHING bad will happen to you.

If nothing else works, try some over-the-counter medication, don't wait for one week - it is dangerous and not healthy to be constipated for so long. Look for the most gentle laxative you can find, you don't need a pipe cleaner.

EDITED:

Also, if you do not have SIBO, raw beets is the way to go. Just make a salad with some olive oil, prunes and walnuts, add some Greek yogurt - it is delicious and it will make you go.

For me fruits always work. Like kiwi and mandarins. But I am not supposed to have them.
