Can a fetus absorb choline through his skin?

I'm researching how a choline defiency may affect a pregnancy. The amniotic fluid has a very high choline concentration when the mother is well-nourished. Can phospholipids like choline be absorbed and used through the dermal route in the unborn fetus?

Would a fetus be able to detect a lack of choline in the amniotic fluid, by the dermal route, or the process after swallowing?

Thanks in advance for your answers. Any resources I could study to this end are also appreciated.
