How on earth do I take Cod Liver Oil? YUCK!!!

So the health benefits of fermented cod liver oil are written all over the place. I'm 14 weeks pregnant and I've just started taking it the past month as a vitamin/health boost.

I've read that it might even help with stretch marks!

But the stuff is so AWFUL!!! I've been giving it to my two year old who loves it and asks for it every morning(why, I have NO idea), but me...I gag on it every time! How can a two year old master the taste, but not me!? I've tried putting it in smoothies and drinks/teas and taking it straight. The smoothies are more tolerable but I can still taste it and I have a hard time eating the whole smoothie because the taste is so unappealing.

I know that there are pill capsules of the stuff but it's almost twice as expensive as the liquid, which is already expensive in itself so liquid is really my only option.

What do you do to take it? Do you just eventually get over the taste? I've even held my nose to take it but the oil is just sooo....ewoerjuosfjdhffhjfjewwwwwwwww.

If you have a deep aversion to it during pregnancy, I would listen to your body, it is smarter about knowing what you need and don't need during this pregnancy than any expert or blogger. Plus, you can get the same nutrients from other more palatable sources like pate, lard, butter, fish, caviar, etc. There are no magic supplements to stop stretch marks, but moisturizing the bejeezus out of your belly to keep the skin as supple as possible is not a bad idea.

Just started taking it this week ( the stuff without capsule) had bottle for a while but been out off by the fishy taste. Decided to man up and get it down and surprisingly, not as bad as expected but I quickly take a sip of water afterwards and any fishy after taste goes almost instantly.

But... My initial idea was to suck on a lime to ease it.

Going to try it with cinnamon tomorrow.

I get the cinnamon flavored. Believe me, it makes a HUGE difference. I tried the unflavored once and nearly threw up. But my baby takes the unflavored in her bottle with no problem too. Try a flavor.

my kids (8 & 5) love it as well and i have been giving it to them since shortly after weaning. I know its not the greatest snack :) I keep it cold in the fridge so its semi solid, carve out a spoonful and just swallow. I hope to one day let it melt in my mouth but for now this is how I get it down.

Cinnamon flavor helps a lot. If I don't have the cinnamon one, I put a couple drops of peppermint oil on the nonflavored. Can't taste the fish at all.

I take the pills. 8 a day. I put water/drink in the back of my throat and toss the pills as far back as I can, and swallow. Barely a taste, if any. Its worth the extra expense for me to NOT taste it. I agree, its repulsive!

A glass of warm lemon water is an excellent chaser, the hotter the water the better then rinse.

And eventually you get used to it and even begin to crave it, because your bodies not stupid and it will start to recognize fermented cod liver oil (i like the stuff with the butter oil mixed in) is crazy gangster good for it

Hold your nose and take a chaser with it. Little salt and lemon... Oh wait. That's for tequila.
