I've been very semi-paleo (okay, not really at all) for a while. I am gluten intolerant so I don't eat it, and I mostly eat natural foods but I have a tendency to dip into the candy/potato chip cabinets at work (bad me!)
Anyway, I noticed an improvement when I cut out gluten- my waist looked proportionately smaller in comparison to my hips- possibly because I reduced bloating. I also noticed that upon eating more food (and more fats, less carbs) my breasts got a little bigger. But again, I'm barely paleo at all. I've also heard that eating too many simple carbs can contribute to a ruler-shaped body for women.
If I adhered to the paleo diet a little better, would I be more likely to see more weight gain in the hips/butt (I want this) and less in the stomach (or maybe even a reduction in stomach gas/weight?) My measurements are 34-24-36 and in an ideal world they'd be 36-22-38 (but that probably won't ever happen). Do you think a paleo diet might help me pack on some weight in the "right" places? (I'm more hourglass shaped to begin with and I'd like to make this more obvious)
I have zero interest in losing weight so for me this is more about spot gaining rather than spot reduction. I already do heavy squats/lunges :)

I don't think it really has an impact. I have always had that 10 inch difference between breasts (quite large and the larger the fatter I get), waist and hips which is just luck or breeding. For me it all looks a lot better then I'm nearer 126 pounds than 140 so I need to get back to that but the proportions remain the same for me. I've always loved my meat and fats though although I don't remember when I ate more chocolate the proportions being any different.

If you eat like a historic Paleo you will look like this.
My eye says 42-45-38. If you were looking at getting rid of the hourglass eat whatever she did.

Short: Yes (imo) very much so :)
Long Answer: Yes but.... diet is the first order variable, then exercise and of course the genetics that you're pretty much stuck with.
34-24-36 measurements are very good...but how they look on YOU depend on your height and weight. These measurements will 'look' quite different if you'e 5' 1" vs 5' 7". I'm a huge fan of waist to height ratio as a rough measure of fitness. Waist to height ratio can give a decent estimate of body fat%.

The following comments are the results of my experience with coaching a couple women towards / onto paleo (n=4). A couple worked, a couple didn't. I cannot vouch 100% for the validity these "theories". YMMV
Waist measurement is driven by overall bodyfat %.
Simple carbs, excess fruit & even whole grains (snacking/cheating) without sufficient energy output leads to fat bellies.
Breast size is a crap shoot...imo, you get what you get (genetics dominate)
Waist measurement seems to be the measurement easiest to control.
Butt / hips can be sculpted but it takes work. :(
Check out Brett Contreras (trainer who specializes in glutes) seems like a thoughtful guy...but too much work for me, my glute building days are over.
And finally here's a new book dedicated to sculpting butts .. only in America? :)
I think you're on the right track with heavy squats & lunges but 'spot gaining' will take some serious focused work. There are lots of glute building resources on the web, I have no experience with them so I cannot recommend.
Measurements of 34-24-36 are hourglass indeed (again, the 'look' depends on your age, height and weight) and would be the envy of a lot of women.
Here's a puff piece on waist to hip ratio... this article tauts .70 as ideal. I cannot find a link to a meatier article that I once read but your desire for 36-24-38 would be approaching the low end of the waist to hip ratio range.

I don't have a good answer but as far as 36 for hips that's very good (I'm a guy and that is my measurement)
I don't believe you can change much regarding hips/butt, if anything you might lose some unless your glute muscles get bigger.
