Is There a Correlation: Increased Fat/Protein in Diet & Increased Feet Odor?

Answered on August 19, 2014

Over the course of the past 5 weeks I have increased my fat and protein intake.

However, I have also noticed during this time period that my feet have started giving off an unpleasant odor. I bathe reguarly, and have never had much of a problem with this before. It is very noticable to me. Even as I sit at my desk I can sense the odor.

  1. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before?

  2. Is there a correlation between Fat/Protein intake and body odor?

  3. Any suggestions on how to resolve the problem?

Thank you for your advice and information.

I also handwash them in the sink with a bar of Fels-Naptha laundry soap - kind of like washing the delicates. Then I put them out in the sun to air dry. Sometimes I do just leave them out in the sun (I live in sunny Florida, so this is easy). I have thought about buying a bottle of Febreze ... still, no matter what I do they end up stinking by the end of the week! My next step was going to be to buy some of those odor eliminator balls or crystals to stick in them at night. It's driving me crazy too! During the day I wear Keen shoes or flip flops, and I don't have any problems with them.

RK - I wear Nike minimalist shoes while commuting to work and while sitting in my cubicle. I wash the inserts, but that doesn't seem to help if this is the cause. I also wear Inova8's during Crossfit, with socks. Do you have any other suggestions besides storing them with baking soda?

Are you wearing barefoot shoes? Those make my feet stink to high heaven. I have started keeping them in a plastic shoe box with baking soda...
