Feeling out of whack

Answered on August 19, 2014

I have been eating paleo for 1 month and last night I had visitors so planned to have a few wines. I ended up getting drunk but drank at least 1 litre of water and had some fried chicken in olive oil before bed. I woke up feeling pretty bad despite usually being able to prevent such a hangover. I did not feel like eating but was anxious as I was feeling very weak and dizzy so I ate some bread, and potato bake. It did feel better but had tummy pains afterwards, but I am feeling very disappointed with myself now as I was doing so well, starting IF and ketosis. I am more determined than ever now to get back on track but not sure how to do it and I am worried I have messed things up that may have just started to adapt. And thanks so much everybody, you are all great people who really care!

Bread and other grainy things are a booze sponge. No bread means the wine will hit fast and hard. One glass these days is enough for me.

It's a new day. No sense in beating yourself up over it. Now you know where you and your body stand with trigger foods. The beauty in this is that you now have a frame of reference as to how crappy you feel and that IS a source of motivation. Take this as not an epic failure but as a good lesson. You have your whole life to get on track.

Your body is still adjusting so I'd limit the alcohol intake to 1 max 2 per night on the weekend events. I noticed that the changes in how my body was handling food and alcohol made me feel worse at the beginning. It takes time, probably a good months, before you'll start feeling good in general. But beware of alcohol intake, it will make you feel bad when you are trying to detox your body!!!

Sounds like a valuable lesson to me and you shouldn't regret as it - happens to everyone at some point im sure!

Try some exercise, it's a great way to clear your mind and make you feel positive about yourself to get you back on track~!

Pick back up where you left off the day before. You are going to do great.

Best Wishes - Eric

If you can handle alcohol and bread, then you're not in that bad of shape and can afford to cheat every once in a while. I wish I was in a position to cheat, but I have to be strict paleo.
