Help Stop The War on Fat!

Answered on August 19, 2014
Created June 09, 2011 at 10:41 PM

Fellow Paleo Hacks,

After reading the absurd US News and World Reports ranking of the "best" diets I felt like I had to do something drastic.

I think that it is time we let our politicians in Washington know how we feel about the criminal dietary recommendations that have been propagated since the 1977 McGovern Commission.

Please visit http://signon.org/sign/end-the-war-on-fat?source=c.url&r_by=263666 to sign a petition to "End 'The War on Fat'".

Sincerely,

Tony Federico

I did see Idiocracy, and for a while there I thought it was prophecy. Then I realized that the most idiotic thing in the movie was some "smart" person halting evolution right when it was about to really work its magic.

I have nothing to lose by signing it so i will. I think that there is plenty of pressure already. These people are such pretentious snobs, they tend to just flippantly brush off people like us, we don't matter, we're raving lunatics without credentials. Proper form would be to consider all views and be ready to engage in the conversation but apparently they don't feel like they have to.

Way to lay down the "ban hammer" Seb! Some "social media expert" probably didn't realize that posting something like that on your page is like kicking a hornet's nest!

I wish your husband well and hope that he shares your views on nutrition. The last time I was at the drug store I picked up one of those magazines geared towards diabetics hoping to get some recipe ideas but, except for an article about "sprucing up your salads" (or something like that) the entire thing was full of desserts, baked goods, artificial sweeteners, and, of course, diabetes drugs. I don't think that I am being cynical, but how can anyone, let alone someone with a degree in nutrition or experience in medicine think that this is good advice?

I totally agree with you, when my husband was diagnosed type 2 we couldn't believe how many carbs they wanted him to eat. They just want him to take pills and eat crap and wait to die I suppose. Surely these people aren't that callous right? But, they clearly are not being educated properly and they either think they're helping people or the just don't care.

That's cool man, and I honestly wasn't thinking about anything but the fact that I've been pissed off all day after reading that preposterous US news and world report review and seeing paleo in last place. I think that it is criminal that "dieticians" and other "experts" can get away with giving people advice that will literally kill them. It's illegal to buy kids cigarettes and alcohol, but it is OK to tell people, even full-blown diabetics (head just exploded) that it is not only OK but healthy to eat a high carb diet? What? No way, not on my watch!

We can't leave this to evolution/natural selection to sort out. Watch the movie "Idiocracy" (or at least this youtube clip) and you'll see what I mean!

I find it rather funny that they used b.s. study results to discredit paleo as a diet. It's almost as if they're scared of us and they don't want to expose paleo because of how much misinformation the public has been fed in the U.S. Think of it as if we're some secret society of individuals who can't be exposed in fear of the government's past stupidity becoming more relevant.

I think we should start our own campaign on Facebook to stop the war on fat. Putting it bluntly more people are being killed by the war on fat than the war on terror. It's all down to ignorance, misinformation, bad science, powerful food industries and subsidies and plain old greed. The brainwashing is almost complete. Even people who agree that grains could be bad and processed food definitely is can't get their heads around the idea that fat is not evil. Soon there will be a whole generation of kids with stunted brain development because of their low fat diets. I'm sure I'm starting to see it in school now. I was horrified watching the local news when they showed a so-called health expert (who, you guessed it, was overweight) showing the chefs in local Indian restaurants how to make their Chicken Tikka Masalas more healthy by replacing the ghee with rape seed oil (canola) and the cream with creme freche!! I was literally screaming at the TV!

Eventually Darwin is gonna win this. It might not be at a pace that satisfies us, but it will happen. I am not going to stress about it anymore.

Something funny is that they posted the link on Paleo Diet Lifestyle's facebook page, as if it would be well received.

Unfortunately I was out for a few days and the link stayed there for that time, but as soon as I saw it I had to ban them from ever posting such lies and misinformation ever again.

I guess it just goes to show just how misinformed we are as a society and how much work and time it'll take for the right information to attain a critical mass where it becomes accepted in the mainstream.
