Fat makes me sluggish

Ok first diet related question!

I tried the low carb paleo thing after being whole 30 strict paleo for about three months. I tried it for about a month and a half, I gained weight and felt not so great.

So I'm back eating a diet that has a lot of raw fruit, raw or lightly cooked veggies (mostly greens), yams, sweet potatoes, squash, meat and lots of fish.

This feels great but so many paleo peeps talk about the importance of fat so I try to include it in my diet.

A little coconut oil is fine, a few nuts, a bit of avocado, some tallow, but if I eat more than just a bit of these foods I feel sluggish and headachey. Almost like how I used to feel when I was about to get a migraine (I don't get those anymore, thank you paleo!)

Ok.... any thoughts?

PS

Am healthy and quite lean (5' tall 99 lbs).

Ok, thanks guys. It just gets me a bit worried with all the "Fat is super important stuff". I'll just relax about it. Thanks again <3

Yeah, don't eat things that make you feel bad. I'd suggest occasionally trying other foods, just to see if they help, or to expand your potential menu. Eggs would be a good place to start, cause they're 'optimal paleo.' But if you're feeling good, odds are your diet is fine.

No need to force feed yourself excess fat if a) you don't like it or b) it doesn't work for your individual biochemistry. Paleo peeps often worry too much about paleo purity points. This isn't a game, points don't matter.

Fat is indeed 'super important' but if you are eating a nutritious whole foods diet that includes sufficient amounts of fats, and feel good, have energy, are at a good weight and lean - there is no reason to add large amounts of extra fat, or to change anything you're doing really. That goes double if you feel worse when you fat-load!
