I am just learning about paleo and plan to start this diet after i am tested, tomorrow, for gluten intolerance. Regardless of the test results, i will eliminate all gluten from my diet.
I need to lose a LOT of weight. I am not very active at this time and would like to know if there is something paleo that i can do to help myself get started.
I will do anything! I am at my wits end.

You can walk, slowly but surely, and build up to longer times and quicker paces.
You can start lowering your sugar count now because it shouldn't effect your gluten test (I wouldn't think anyway, someone correct me if I'm wrong.)
You can include more real meat in your diet, replacing any pre-formed meat-like foods.
You can realize that you'll feel damn good if you do this right. And you can, as I'm sure you already have, research, research, research.

Edit to add: also, if you're fighting crazy sugar cravings (like I am) I suggest eating 40+ g protein in the morning with as little carbs as possible. Just get up tomorrow morning, and make yourself a couple of hamburgers or chicken breasts. And make sure the next two meals have those palm-sized(ish) portions of meat AND lots of veggies. Get as much variety in your week as possible veggie-wise. We want you to hit all of your nutrient requirements! Some people like to take a multi-vitamin, which is fine, but my gut (haha) tells me that nutrients from food sources are the best place to get 'em.

Eat meat, veggies, and very little starchs. Avoid grains, legumes, sugar, and too much fruit. I keep my fruit intake to a minimal of a banana evey other day or so. I eat 1 cup of white rice per day because I found that it reduces my cravings. Avoid nuts for awhile because they make many people gain weight.
Start walking outside during daylight hours for 20-30 minutes in order to get exercise and vitamin D. When you start to lose weight and build strength, you can do high intensity interval training (HIIT)1-2 times per week but don't worry about it for now.
You may find that the Paleo lifestyle is easier than your old lifestyle.

I am 41 and a few years ago was at my wits end too. My suggestions:
Focus on minimizing carbohydrate intake, as much as you can. I'm talking 30g or less per day. Don't worry about green, leafy vegetables, but do avoid the starchy stuff like sweet potatoes, fruits (aside from some berries), and carrots.
Don't get too hung up with 'being Paleo' - do the best you can. Grass-fed beef vs CAFO meat is not going to make any difference in the amount of weight you lose. It has other benefits, but weight loss is not one of them. The carb intake is what is going to 'make or break' your 'diet'. Losing weight while eating some processed non-carby foods is better than maintaining/gaining weight eating sweet potatoes.
Do not exercise. Aside from maybe walking. Exercise will make you hungry, and if you're obese, the benefits aren't really worth jeopardizing your diet. Wait until your body is healthy, the metabolic issues are fixed, and you actually feel like exercising. Believe it or not, you will actually feel like exercising once your weight issue is fixed.
EAT. Especially the first few weeks, you will likely crave grains, sweets, etc. So eat dietary fat. Lots of it. Don't even think about counting calories. Eat dietary fat. It will make you full.
Immerse yourself in all of the Paleo/low carb podcasts, blogs, books, etc. You'll find a community that you can lean on (and if your friends/family is like mine then you'll need the internet support, believe me!). It will keep you motivated and give you ideas for recipes, etc.
Stay with it. While I think the 50g of carbs he recommends per day is too high for a lot of people, I think a good start is Mark Sisson's site/book.
Good luck - I started this journey a few years ago myself in my late 30's, as an obese male that was obese since age 9. Within 2 months I felt like a new person. At about the 4 month mark I had so much energy that I started exercising because it felt good (incidentally, my weight loss slowed down dramatically when I started exercising). 8 months later I was down 65lbs and eventually down another 10 without even trying. I have a great body now and, more importantly, in my 40's, I'm enjoying life so much more. Never tired, etc. You can do this. Do it.

Aim for meat/fish/eggs for protein, butter/cream/coconut oil for fat, and veggies for carbs while you have weight to lose. See that word "aim"? Walk a bit.
The above sounds easy, but it's kind of black belt. Some people can go straight to black belt, but most have to pass through white, yellow, etc. So don't beat yourself up. Go cold turkey if that's your style. Go slow if that's your style: cut your sugar in half, remove your gluten, reduce vegetable oils, FORGIVE YOURSELF WHEN YOU CHEAT, and resolve to do better next time. Depending on psychological AND PHYSICAL factors, it may be hard to eat the way you want to, but remember that 50% is better than 0%. Also remember that it gets easier over time. At some point you'll cross a threshold where positive results start happening.
Also remember that weight loss without starvation (the correct way to do it) takes a while and has lots of plateaus. Set your goal instead to be improve your health, and trust that the healthier you get, the closer you'll get to your natural weight (the reverse of how weight loss is usually thought of).
Whatever your obstacles, others on this site have had similar. What is for certain is that if you give up, you won't succeed, and if you stick with it (however many snags you hit along the way) you will succeed. It's worth it!
And remember cravings go away. You would laugh at a smoker who decided life without another cigarette wouldn't be worth it so they kept smoking. Don't make the same mistake with sugar and gluten. Sure you CRAVE them now, but once you've quit, which isn't easy but it's doable, then it's not a deprivation, and it's otherwise so worth it.

It sounds like you guys are coming from about the same place, at least as far as age and weight are concerned.
I'm much younger than him and I bow DOWN to the job he's done! Inspirational just doesn’t’ quite cut it.
