Acne High Fat, Fruit. Help?

I just want good skin, but I wish I could just eat potatoes with ghee, fruit, dates, nuts, and even legumes. But these foods have anti nutrients. I don't understand how our body can crave something that has anti-nutrients.

Seems like everything is bad for me! I'm in college and was trying the high fruit, low fat diet, but I always crave nuts and meat.

Why do I want potatoes and butter but this is bad for me. I haven't eaten potatoes in years! I ahave tried so many diets for acne and candida. I like paleo but it doesn't work at college. I want a balance of both while healing my body.

I want potatoes and butter, but I heard mixing fat with carbs is bad, but good sometimes.\

Nuts have antinutrients but are good for us? Our ancestors wouldnt soak and prepare things. Sigh! I feel like there is no solution!

I;ve stayed away from grains and dairy for years!

Oh my gosh! I love white potatoes with some ghee! Just made some by boiling then adding a tiny but of ghee! So good! I wish that just eatig enough vitamins and minerals wiped it candida. I am going to stop being so restrictive and eat my potatoes, fruits, and meats even if it supposedly feeds candida, while takin my antifungals of garlic and olive leaf. Then I will reintroduce probiotics and cultures foods. So sick of denying my body want it wants! I get that processed foods are nada, and even grains. Rice only taste good with food not alone

I have to agree here. I was eating HCLF (basically all fruit) and my skin got worse. 2 months on paleo-primal and I am finally splotchy blothcy pimply free and my skin has a better glow and freshness to it.

Also, I was trying the high fruit diet because so many people have had success with it clearing their candida, and said that too much fat and sugar together was the cause of insulin resistance. If that is the case, then I feel like even mixing good fats with carbs would be bad: i.e. ghee wih potatoes or a paleo desser with fat and carbs.

"I don't understand how our body can crave something that has anti-nutrients."

Everything has some anti-nutrients. That's how the nuts, seeds, grasses, vegetables, and fruits survive. Animals might not, but they evolved ways to run or fly or fight to defend themselves.

"Our ancestors wouldnt soak and prepare things"

Yes, actually they did. It is a modern invention to refine grains in either massive mills or through bleaching/etc. Historically grains were sprouted.

"Why do I want potatoes and butter but this is bad for me"

You are eating a low fat diet. Your body is craving energy. If you are not going to use fat as your energy, then you need to give it glucose. Potatoes are a good form of carbs. Also, I would not agree that they are bad for you.

" I wish I could just eat potatoes with ghee, fruit, dates, nuts, and even legumes"

Legumes are off limits for me, my body just does not deal well with them. But if sprouted legumes is the worse thing you eat, you are not doing that bad. I would suggest it would be better to replace the nuts with some meat but to each their own. A diet as you described would be a pretty good diet.

"I like paleo but it doesn't work at college"

Don't let perfection get in the way of progress. Eat as best as you can, manage your stress as best you can, exercise as best you can, and enjoy life. You cannot be 100% paleo in college? Try 80% or 70% or whatever you can do. Limit the sugars, limit the grains. And do your best! Good Luck

Perhaps you could reword your question to make it clearer. By simply staying away from grains, legumes, and dairy proteins (I do eat ghee) I stay clear of pimples. I can usually tell exactly why I get one when I do- most recently a potential gluten exposure at Thanksgiving, but I think the most common offender is soy. They sneak that stuff into all sorts of things- and you are probably suffering from that if you have to eat via a college meal plan.

So, load up on vegetables, lean meats(avoid anything with a sauce on it), fruit, nuts, seafood- anything that looks like it is pretty much in it's natural state. Bring your own fats. Ghee, coconut oil, red palm oil. Get your sleep. Consider buying some blue blocking glasses for night time to cut down on artificial light exposure. Most of them look dorky, but maybe you can find some fashionable looking ones.

Keep your relationship with alcohol stable; too much of it will screw up your gut healing process.

I'm not sure why you are doing a high fruit low fat diet? If it's for your skin, the ONLY thing that helped my skin was avoiding insulin raising foods. Eat turkey, chicken, red meat, butter, coconut oil, unheated olive oil, salads, veggies, fish etc and your skin WILL get better. I know you say you love beans and potatoes and all that, but if your skin is really bothering you, just cut them out for a little while, and once your skin in under control, you can have them sometimes or introduce them again to test your tolerance. I know it sucks, but I promise if you avoid sugars, even natural ones, your skin will heal. It's weird, but something about high insulin levels results in acne. You've got this!

Since when does ghee have anti-nutrients? And I consider tubers a safe food. Eat potatoes and ghee. Get enough zinc in your diet from red meats and oysters, zinc helps with acne. And peel your potatoes if you're worried about antinutrients. Check out Mat Lalonde, I agree with his take on paleo, which says meats vegetables and tubers are alright, but No seeds (grains are grass seeds).

In addition to zinc I'd like to note that acutane is a derivative of Vitamin A and supplementing vitamin A on top of zinc has helped some people. I'd make sure n supplement Vit D in conjuction if you do do this though, to help control from Vit A toxicity.

Chris Kresser wrote a nice series on skin health recently you may be able to get a few tips from: http://chriskresser.com/nutrition-for-healthy-skin-silica-niacin-vitamin-k2-and-probiotics

As far as potatoes with butter ... combining fat and carbs often simply makes food taste better and so we like it better. The bonus in this case is it's more nutritious.

I cut out everything but meat and veggies for about 3 weeks. I started adding stuff in.

triggers:

lots of fruit lots of sweeteners lots of cheese

I can get away with a little bit of it, but not a whole lot.

I tolerate legumes really well! Darn I just ate some potatoes and chilli! I feel so satisfied! It's been so long! I like have a little fruit. I just am so sick of eating healthy and still having poor skin. I feel like eating too many nuts really could. I dunno about nuts though, eventhough I crave them too! Peanut butter is not natural, and peanuts aren't eaten by any culture really.
