Will I still be able to lean out while consuming cannabis once a week?

Answered on August 19, 2014
Created April 04, 2013 at 1:43 AM

I've been trying to quit for the past couple of weeks, but I've come to the realization that I kind of need it to unwind from a week's worth of work, and as far as I know, the pros (stress relief, enjoyment with friends) outweighs the cons (decreased testosterone, memory lapses, hindered motivation). I limit it to once a week and smoke approximately 1g a week.

My question is, if I workout about 4 times a week, how will it affect my body composition and/or physical performance. I try to make up for it by eating as healthy as possible and getting 8 hours of sleep minimum every night.

Will I still be able to lean out while consuming cannabis once a week?

(I don't drink alcohol by the way.)

Smoking and inhaling anything isn't great for you, except there have been studies that very infrequent smokers actually have lower incidence of lung cancer than non-smokers, which could be hormeosis. And your typical pot smoker smokes probably 1/100 as much as a cigarette smoker. Each cigarette is about 10 puffs, 1 pack = 200 puffs, vs. a few bong hits per week, etc.

No need to smoke it. Just put a gram in a pan with butter or oil and saute it slowly. It should bubble but not burn. Two or three minutes is good. Then scrape it out and eat it. Wait a half hour. You should bubble but not burn.

Sorry to bring my negativity to this little party, but anyone who genuinely recognises the systemic inflammatory effects smoking has on the body just wouldn't do it! In my opinion...!

Is weed really that big a deal in your life? I could understand if it had some crazy, mind-widening effect but the lengths and risks people are willing to go to just to get a bit giggly never ceases to amaze me....

It might mess with your metabolism but once a week shouldn't be any big problem, and might help to relax and unwind which is also important. As long as once a week is really once a week and not 5x per week. The obvious issue would be avoiding the Ben & Jerry's cravings, but even that once a week won't kill you, but if you get the munchies keep it Paleo. Just keep up with the diet and exercise, leaning out can be tricky but I wouldn't think this is a huge variable.

Weed is known may be, according to some sources, a possible cause of gynecomastia (man boobs). That for me would be a pretty good point to just trying to keep far from it. Even if it's just a small amount, once a week is 1 out of 7 days in your life... I'd keep that into consideration.

I guess there will also be another neurological possible issues with it, frankly as I never smoked I'm not really into this.

Nonetheless, I've had some other small addictions in the past like sugary stuff, chocolate, junk food, scratching my hair, playing video-games until almost passing out and many others so I kind of imagine how may you feel.

Since addiction is pretty related with the need for relief triggered by stress as you also pointed out, I'd suggest to try to find a more healthy substitute for weed than can fulfil this duty and help you get over it with time. That worked pretty well for me in the past: finding a new rewarding item that will switch my attention from another one, like a kid when has a new toy and forgets about the older.

And yep, hemp seems to have some good nutritional value so I second the suggestion of eating it instead of smoking hehe.

EDITED: I'm sorry, I should have pointed some reliable sources to support what I stated (gyne and weed). I recalled to what I saw several years ago when searching the bodybuilding community as I had some troublesome spot fat in the nipples and just saw back then some references to this.

That there's concern with it, is true, just need to google it. Just an example of that even the medical authorities list it as a possible cause. Whether there's real proof of this, It seems that it has been associated but still some studies did not find an association. I guess, at least, is worth having into account. Then you're up to decide. I just wanted to point a possible issue that no one brought into light.

Here is an interesting study for who may be interested in the subject:

I quit blazing last july, so about 8 months ago, I only smoke once in a while now. I have noticed that I have gotten leaner, i imagine because my body doesn't need as much fat to absorb the toxins in smoke. I think you can lean out with only smoking one day a week but you definitely want to detox it for a while to get healthy and drop the fat.

i extract essential oils of cannabis and vaporize them, i have been doing so for 8+ years. with no ill effects as opposed to combusting. I consume the oil daily , and several times a day at that.

I also practice ashtanga yoga 6 times a week, and pranayama every day. on average 3 hours of yoga a day.

Cannabis helps alot with my inflammation and joint pains. its fine

As long as your not using it to fill a void cannabis is a million times better and actually medicinal compared to alcohol. However it would probably be better to eat it than smoke it. Think chocolate coconut flour magic brownies:) Hence you get the added benefit of killing those munchies! It is basically a human superfood. Cannabis oil has cured such things as stage 4 melanoma. Enjoy. The stress in peoples lives, even just worrying about what they put in their mouths is 100 times worth than any amount of pot will ever be. Plus its stress that will make you fat.
