Weird IF Experience or Just Hormones?

I am adapted to burning fat for energy so I do not experience any hunger whatsoever during short fasts -- 18-24 hours. I am normal weight. I stopped eating at 3:00Pm yesterday and it's now abot 21 hours later. This morning, I felt bloated like I was retaining water and sure enough, I was up almost a pound. No usual AM bowel movement either. Normally, I would be taking walks during the fast but we have been homebound due to the storm. Anyone else retain water during a short fast? I'm in the luteal phase of my cycle so maybe hormones are coming into play. All I drink during fasts is water, unsweetened tea or black coffee.

Given that I feel good energy and no hunger at all, I could probably extend the fasts but I'm not sure if it would confer any additional benefit. I'm fasting to give my digestive system a break and to try to induce autophagy -- not for weight or fat loss. I'm at goal weight.

Intermittently fast spontaneously (about 2-3 times a week) and sometimes I get this bloat you are describing - it's at it's worst just before I break the fast, around the 20 hr mark. Heard this happening to a few other people as well.

Hi Payam, People fast for a week or longer sometimes so yes,I consider 18-24 hours a relatively short fast.

I always retain water during my luteal phase. Drop it all as soon as I start my menses.

I agree that it's hormones. I tend to retain a bit of water during the luteal phase too.

The WaterCure suggests 1/2 teaspoon of Himalayan salt for each 10 glasses of water and that may halt the bloat.
