Strange symptoms.

Answered on August 19, 2014

Please help me hack my strange symptoms. A few weeks ago I fasted and had a problem with my thyroid swelling and some bad edema. I still have a lump in my throat even though the swelling has gone down very much. But now I am having pins and needles in my limbs through out my arms and legs/hands and feet. I still get swelling on warm days. I feel tired and a bit depressed and have trouble to use the bathroom.

Any ideas what could be wrong with me.

What I eat: Mainly meat and fat. Sometimes cheeses (little amounts) and heavy cream in about 1 ?? cups of coffee. Rarely do I eat vegetables but when I do I eat mushrooms or red pepper. I do not take any vitamins. I drink water and eat table salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

That's about it.

akd, I know I have been a tad bit confused by my eating habits and my health lately and have felt un inspired so that contributes to my lack of PH time. I have made a apointment and will see a doctor shortly. Thanks for the good feelings :)

Zinc and copper need to be in balance. Since there is very little copper in muscle meat, that might also be a problem. High amounts of zinc might cause copper defiency.

Ketosis can be a way of losing weight or addressing health issues, but in my opinion is stressful on your body and best undertaken carefully and for a limited time. And it isn't for everyone (maybe not you). Try some non-meat variation in your diet and see how you feel! No harm in trying.

I had a doctor like that for years. As long as we didn't discuss diet (or cholesterol), she was fine. Some parts of Western medicine are actually functional. ;D In all seriousness, I'm glad you've decided to see a doctor. I know you're insightful enough to take whatever s/he tells you and do your own research and thinking on it, too.

Why wouldn't there be enough zinc in muscle meat?

Rose you are right and these past few week I just seem to be feeling worse. Dont worry I will call a doctor in the morning. I just thought there might be someone who could give me some insight to my body's strange symptoms.

I will see a real doctor trust me. We do not have holistic doctors in my area. But our doctors are extremely old school. They do not understand paleo.

Thank you for the suggestions, I love liver paste, so thats a great start. I do eat salmon quite often. I have been aiming at staying in ketosis, I have 20 lbs left until my goal weight, so I avoid starches and fruit. Fermented veggies also hurt my belly, they give me bad, painful gas.

I also am really out of the loop on medical terms and issues. Other than my cancer problem and having babies I do not get check-ups or go to see doctors.

I had cancer in 1999-2001, but I have clean tests today. I get checked now and then for it. Other than that I have gluten sensitivity but I do not eat gluten and there is nothing else I can think of.

See a real doctor who can figure out if there is anything wrong, don't assume it's your thyroid or see a holistic practitioner.

Uggla, between these symptoms and your "yoyo ketosis" symptoms that you posted yesterday, I wonder if something a little longer term than keto-adaptation is going on. First edema and thyroid, then pins and needles, and then puking and lethargy. I agree with everyone's recommendation to see a doctor; what you're experiencing may not be diet-related at all. Do you have any autoimmune issues that you know of?

First off, see a doctor. Don't see a holistic practitioner. That's stupid. Just because a doctor might not think you should be eating a lot of fat doesn't mean he can't diagnose what you problem and fix it. there is nothing wrong with seeing a doctor. Second, if you aren't eating any organ meats I'd suggest you start. They contain high concentrations of much needed vitamins and minerals.

Sadly I do not have access to a holistic practitioner in my area. Nor do I think I could afford one. But I will call the local clinic in the morning.

No but I will call one in the morning. I do not have any Paleo friendly doctors in my area (I live in Sweden) So I highly doubt they will understand at all. They are VERY old fashioned here, very very very old fashioned.

I agree with the other suggestions to see a doctor.

Additionally, many folks here report problems with lethargy, digestion, and being generally uncomfortable when they don't eat enough carbs. I think it is possible to go too far eating exclusively meat and eggs.

I had some issues when I think I went overboard with the meat, eggs and fat without eating enough fruits and vegetables. To remedy this, I ate nothing but yogurt and fruit for about 12 hours and then was sure to include a relatively lower-protein and lower-fat meal every day for a few days, and I felt much better.

You might be short on vitamins and several minerals. Zinc, magnesium, iodine, copper, choline, vitamin c, potassium etc. Very hard to get these with just muscle meat. Muscle meat isnt that nutrious. You need organ meat. Liver, heart, kidney marrow etc. And seafood like oysters, fish perhaps kelp etc... And surely some leafy greens, tubers and vegetables, fermented vegetables, and some berries perhaps.

Those are major symptoms. See a holistic practitioner with experience in dealing with thyroid issues. This isn't something you should be trying to figure out on your own.

Everybody needs some form of carbs your body cannot function without them. You symptoms to me sound like lack of ANY carbs at all. Have a couple cups of broccoli and see a dr.
