Good and bad results on Paleo

Been on strict Paleo diet for 12 weeks - 60 to 100 G's of carbs a day, NO WHEAT and a moderate amount of dairy. Lost 20 lbs. which is fantastic and am only a few lbs. from a normal BMI. Incorporated HIT; both cardio and 5/5 lift to failure for the last 6 weeks. Feel great and have seen some added muscle. Also been dabbling in some light CT. Just had my annual physical this week. My cholesterol was stellar total 154 HDL (down from 160 on healthy version of SAD diet.....if there is such thing as a healthy SAD diet--lol) - 64 LDL (up from 56) 73 LDL (down from 87) TRI 83 (same as last year)

Here's the weird part.... I'm a non diabetic but have been obsessed with testing my FBG ever since I started Paleo. I test at least daily as soon as I wake up which is a 12 hour fast and my readings are always in the mid to high 80's range...not bad I tested my FBG the morning of the physical numerous times and I was much higher than normal like in the mid to upper 90's. I also had my FBG checked at the Y last week and it was 83 which is what on got on my meter that same morning so I know my meter is fairly accurate. Coincidentally, my blood pressure was elevated at the doctors office - 140/82. I check my blood pressure readings at least twice a day and average around 122/72. I told the nurse that I never get a top number that high at home. Both the nurse and the doctor got the same reading in both my arms. My first thought was that my blood pressure monitor was off. But again, I had my blood pressure taken by the nurse at the Y last week and it was 124/70 which is what I got that same morning. As soon as I got home from the doctors office some 20 minutes later I tested my blood pressure on my monitor and sure enough it was still high 139/82 almost identical to the doctor's office. My doctor was not concerned as he knows I monitor my blood pressure and watch my carb intake like a hawk. And, I fully realize that your blood pressure can fluctuate during the day but I am still miffed on what caused this as I have been VERY strict on Paleo. Here's the topper...my FBG was 113!!! WTH?!?!

Any thoughts what could of caused the spike in blood pressure and sugar. Obviously, my liver manufactured the sugar as I was fasted for 12 hours. Maybe a cortisol spike due to me being anxious over the physical?? I was pretty physced to show off my new body and brag about Paleo to my Doc.

By the way, my wife and son think I have lost it with this Paleo diet and training routine. Any other getting this type of response??

Sorry for the long post!

Cheers!

FBG : http://high-fat-nutrition.blogspot.co.nz/2007/10/physiological-insulin-resistance.html - I assume your low carb. Apparently, when your low carb, its your HbA1c you watch, not your BG levels. More at the link..

Sounds like white coat hypertension. The stress of going to the doctor (especially given your obsession with the numbers) likely raised you BP AND your BG. Keep monitoring at home.

You seem to obsess way to much on your blood work and FBG. BP can vary and is influenced by pretty much everything. FBG reading is interesting, but I doubt that you have developed Type 2 diabetes. If you can control yourself, try to measure BP and FBG once daily in the morning. See how the numbers develop over a couple of weeks. My guess would be that they'll wary on a daily basis!
