Fasting and testosterone?

I've read numerous health articles on the benefits of Intermittent Fasting. It is supposed to give your body time to remove toxins. It gives your digestion system a much needed break, and most importantly if done for a period of 24 hours, it helps your body's hormones balance out. Thus increasing HGH in the pituitary gland. Have you guys out there notice higher testosterone symptoms such as, more agressiveness, better mood and higher sex drive?

High testosterone is not associated with increased aggressiveness. Just the opposite, in fact - low testosterone is associated with more aggressive behavior. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0031938402006479

I'd still keep the IF below 24h. But that's just me. Tinker, Tinker, Tinker. That's the name of the game.

Yup, and if you don't like the results. Go back to your baseline :) That's the beauty about diet, you can change it with ease if it isn't working for you.

Exercising lowers Test as well but it shoots up later in the day. Martin B (leanGains) said IF stress the body like exercise does.

I'll take your word for it. I'm an ectomorph and already have lost enough weight though eating paleo. I dont want to have a sickly looking vegan/vegetarian body. I'll do it once or twice a week. See what happens.

Yup. Same with me, man. ZMA really helped me with my sleep. I had some crazy ass dreams. Very vived and movie-like. I was also horny at night. Constantly thinking about sex lol. Good times.

I do an IF about once every 7-10 days, no problems whatsoever. YMMV, but I don't recommend doing it all the time.

Take a look at this study: http://jcem.endojournals.org/content/83/6/1967.long

"In summary, fasting in young but not older men reduces 24-h LH secretory burst frequency and mass and (24-h pooled) serum free testosterone concentrations. Fasting in young but not older men enhances the quantifiable orderliness (lower ApEn) of LH release, and alters 24-h LH rhythmicity. Thus, we conclude that the metabolic stress of short-term fasting unmasks age-related dynamic differences in the pulsatile, 24-h rhythmic, and orderly release of LH."

This article states that fasting reduces free testosterone in young men. I hope there are someone her who have a higher knowledge of the endocrine system than I do that can simplify the mechanisms described in the article.

I'm on my 4th week of IF. I do notice an increase of assertiveness that might correlate to a boost in test. But I also have a few other exciting things going on in my life as well. Hard to conclude but like TnQ posted I'm sure IF lowers Test. Pretty sure it's on the LeanGains site & Anthony Copolo's site (sorry nolinks).

I personally don't notice any noticeable testosterone traits from IF. I'm on ZMA, and I attribute a lot of my aggressiveness to that supplementation.

Try an IF protocol for a week and see how you feel. Everyone is different, so give it a shot. I'd recommend staying around 16 hours, not 24.
