When I eat less on certain days I'll still eat throughout the day but eating less then usual. Sometimes I can get by with a small breakfast, hardly any lunch and have a large meal at dinner time. I tend to skip meals on various days.

Tabata - google it, briefly shown that short duration high intensity exercise is way more efficient. combine that with some intermittent fasting like 16/8 and a Paleo diet. Works for me.
